Emerald, a lush, luxurious shade of green, is the birthstone for May. This gemstone is associated with growth, renewal and prosperity, and was Cleopatra’s favorite jewel. Not surprisingly, emerald jewelry is popular with women born in other months of the year.
This rich and elegant hue flatters all skin tones, hair and eye colors, and personal styles. This classy shade mixes well with a range of colors you may already have in your wardrobe: other shades of green, blues, bright colors, and neutrals (beige, grey, black, cream, white and brown).
Because of the beauty and versatility of this color, emerald vintage costume jewelry is an asset to every woman’s wardrobe. To illustrate this point, I’ve selected this 1920s Emerald & Filigree Art Deco Necklace from the TruFaux Jewels boutique to adorn four classic, neutral outfits. The necklace features a silver-tone, paper-clip chain embellished with square-cut emerald glass drops and triangular filigree panels topped with smaller emerald stones. The delicate chain provides a dramatic contrast to the bold, deep color. The clothing and accessories are the types of pieces you may already own.
How to Wear It
1. This silver-tone necklace pairs well with silver hoop earrings, jeans, a v-neck tee and your favorite denim jacket for a well-put-together casual look. I’ve added a green bag and multi-colored shoes for fun.
2. Another take on casual features this lively necklace nestled in the v-neck of a black tee with black jeans and a tweed jacket or cardigan. Wear simple silver earrings, such as these hoops, and green shoes or handbag for more color.
3. For the office, this necklace adds pops of rich color to a black pencil skirt and white or cream blouse. Wear silver earrings in a simple design, to allow the necklace to remain the center attraction.
4. A navy wrap dress embellished with this necklace will take you from day to night in a luscious combination of colors and textures. The Emerald, Diamanté & Sterling Filigree Art Deco Bracelet is also from the TruFaux Jewels boutique. You could wear silver stud earrings, like the ones shown here, or real or faux diamond studs to compliment the faux diamonds in the bracelet.
