Shades of amethyst and peridotnavettes and round rhinestones are layered like petals in this flower-shaped 1950s Alice Caviness brooch. A lovely art glass stone forms the center of the flower. The setting is gold-tone with a roll-over safety clasp. I think this designer’s work is often overlooked.
Ruby glass beads wired in a spiral are adorned with channels of diamanté and topped with a large ruby bead. Frank Hess designed a nearly identical dress clip for Miriam Haskell circa 1940, but with diamanté only on the front. This brooch has them on both sides and closes with a trombone clasp on a filigree back.

Glass pearls and emerald-green-blown-glass beads are hand-wired onto gilt metal in this 1950s French brooch with a trombone clasp. This beautiful three-dimensional piece is in the style of Louis Rousselet. Note that his work was usually signed only with a paper hang tag, so most of his surviving pieces remain unsigned. Gold, black and clear seed beads along with gold-tone rope and a diamanté-studded handle form this whimsical Italian 1950s brooch by Ornella. The solid back supports the hand-beading and the trombone clasp. This company's pieces are well made, hard to date, and hard to find.
