Barbara’s Picks: New Year & New Ways to Wear Brooches
Celebrate the New Year with new ideas for wearing vintage accessories. Long forgotten and often associated with the senior set, the brooch has been making a comeback in recent years – mainly for its versatility. It can be worn just about anywhere on the body – from head (in your hair or on a hat) to toe (on shoes). Scroll down to see each of these jewels infused with a new contemporary spirit in the How to Wear Vintage section of this page.
- 1950s Jewelry, Costume Jewelry Sets / Parures, Pennino Bros. Jewelry, Vintage Brooches & Pins, Vintage EarringsThese gold disk earrings and brooch were made by Pennino Bros. in the 1950s. Pavé disks intersect and overlay the scored disks of gold-tone metal, which remind me of open fans. The layered design and construction of this set are characteristic of exceptional makers like this one. The brooch closes with a roll-over safety clasp. Note that about 1/4″ of the pavé disk on each ear clip will sit below your earlobe. Wear these lovely earrings and brooch together or separately, to create different looks. Your own real or faux diamond studs or hoop earrings would work well with this brooch. Wear the ear clips as shoe embellishments.USD$275.00USD$275.00
- 1940s Jewelry, Coro Jewelry, Vintage Brooches & PinsThis vintage brooch pendant is a substantial 1940s ‘2-for-1’ jewel. The gold-plated sterling silver flower is embellished with aquamarine- and ruby-glass stones and diamanté accents. The petals of the flower have decorative piercing and are tilted and slightly curled, giving it lots of life. Designed by the remarkable Adolph Katz, this three-dimensional piece is a fine example of the Retro Modern style. One photo shows the pendant on a black cord, but you may prefer a gold chain or a velvet ribbon. A 17-inch, 2mm black rubber cord with a stainless steel twist lock (just like the one in the photo) is included with this purchase. Scroll down to see similar brooches, each with a diamanté center (one has the pendant loop), by the same maker. Note that any bright color variations in metal are only camera reflections.USD$295.00USD$295.00
- 1940s Jewelry, Trifari Jewelry, Vintage Brooches & PinsThis Trifari bouquet brooch has enamel leaves with faceted, oval ruby-red glass flowers surrounded by pavé petals. Long pavé leaves and a pavé ribbon that ties the bouquet complete this graceful Alfred Spaney design. This lovely and timeless 1940s brooch closes with a roll-over safety clasp.USD$275.00USD$275.00
- 1950s Jewelry, Costume Jewelry Sets / Parures, Hobé Jewelry, Vintage Brooches & PinsThis gemstone brooch and earrings set has large jade-art-glass nuggets set in gold-tone metal as its focal point. The oval-shaped brooch has two nuggets surrounded by faux pearls and glass stones in amethyst, sapphire, and citrine. These embellishments are in various shapes and sizes. An overlay of gold-plated filigree flowers with tiny sapphire centers complete the brooch. It closes with a roll-over safety clap. The ear clips each have one jade nugget with a semi-circle of the same colorful stones. The earrings face each other, so they will frame your face to perfection. The combination of elements and the complexity of design make this set very special. It’s a great example of Hobé’s ’50s Glam style and suits today’s preference for statement jewelry. Create different looks by wearing the pieces separately. The colors are bold and beautiful!USD$295.00USD$295.00
