Amanda’s Story

Amanda’s Story
October 17, 2016 Barbara Schwartz

I always enjoy helping clients solve their accessory-related problems. And I especially like working with brides. Not only do I want each one to feel beautiful and special on her wedding day, but I also want to help her choose pieces from my Vintage Bridal Jewelry collection that she will be able to wear again and again. And I want her to remember how she felt on her wedding day every time she wears the jewels. One of the clients I’ve recently adorned is a bride named Amanda.

Meeting the Gown, then the Bride

A stylist I know contacted me about Amanda, her friend/client, who was looking for jewelry to wear on her wedding day. The stylist sent me some photos of the bride wearing her gown at one of her fittings. The modern dress, with a bateau neckline, was fairly simple in the front. What made it unique was a wide ribbon of trim embellished with pearls, crystals, and gold thread; the trim started on the shoulders and bordered the low-scooped back.

Amanda wanted to wear pearl earrings but didn’t have the right style. She wasn’t necessarily looking for vintage bridal jewelry (i.e., she wasn’t following the “something old, something new” tradition). She just wanted to find the perfect jewels to compliment her wedding ensemble. I sent both women photos of several pairs of 1950s pearl earrings that I thought would work with the gown. But once I confirmed that Amanda would be wearing gold shoes, I had other jewels in mind.

When Amanda and I met for her session, she brought a swatch of the trim. She also wisely wore a white sweater, and her long hair was up. She tried on each pair of pearl earrings I had brought and really liked one pair by Louis Rousselet.

But when she put on the Gold Scroll & Pavé 1950s Earrings by Elsa Schiaparelli that I had chosen, her face lit up. And when I draped the swatch of trim on her shoulder, we both knew those earrings were meant to be worn with that gown. Luckily I had also brought the Gold Mesh & Diamanté 1950s Cuff by Hattie Carnegie to complete her jeweled accessories.

See How She Wore Them

Amanda’s wedding day was in September, and I got in touch with her soon after. She graciously sent this photo and her comments about her experience.

“Barbara and TruFaux Jewels were a referral from a friend of mine who is a stylist. Since nothing was traditional about my wedding attire – I never tried a wedding dress on; instead I had a seamstress create a dress based on a photograph I found – I was looking for an unexpected twist for my jewelry as well. Based on a few details she had gleaned about my dress, Barbara and I met and within 15 minutes I had settled on the perfect earrings and bracelet. They were understated and elegant, and provided a lovely hint of glamour. I will always remember how I felt on my wedding day when I wear them again.”

I love a happy ending, don’t you?
