Pennino brooch with sapphires & diamante in 2-layered bow
    Close-up view of brooch center
    USD$295.00

Sapphire & Diamanté 1940s Bow Pennino Brooch

The design and construction of this brooch from the late-1940s is so fine that I bought it for myself. Now I’m reluctantly offering it to a new home. The top layer features a pavé ribbon of rhodium-plated metal that’s edged with faceted, oval sapphire-glass stones topped with tiny diamanté, and cinched in the center with two tones of metal. The bottom layer is a rhodium-plated larger bow. It’s edged with thin rays ending with collet-set, tiny sapphire stones. The two layers are connected with a tiny screw, and the pin closes with a roll-over safety clasp. Pennino pieces are always exceptional, and this one is superb. Its quality rivals that of fine jewelry, but this one is available for a fraction of the cost! Although this piece is now sold, a variation of this design in rose-gold with amethysts is available – scroll down to see it.

Sapphire and diamante bracelet in tank track pattern
Sapphire and diamante bracelet by Schreiber & Hiller
    USD$195.00

Sapphire & Diamanté Bracelet by Schreiber & Hiller

This sapphire and diamanté bracelet was made in Germany in the 1930s. Of all of the tank-track bracelets in the group by this maker, this piece is the only one with two colors. The long, narrow links with engraved edges and channel-set stones are trapezoid in shape when viewed from the side. This Art Deco bracelet closes with a concealed clasp and safety catch. Although some diamantés have aged, they don't appear cloudy in the way my camera depicts them. This piece still shines! Scroll down to see a matching brooch.

Sapphire & Pearl Garland 1950s Brooch by Alice Caviness

Garlands of sapphire-blue-glass stones and faux pearls set in gold plating rise from a base formed by a large faceted sapphire-glass stone in this 1950s brooch by Alice Caviness. The garland-like outer rim appears to dance around the focal point center stone. The look of this three-dimensional piece is both elegant and versatile. I think this brooch ranks right up there with works by Hattie Carnegie, one of this maker's contemporaries.

Sapphire & Sterling Diamonbar Art Deco Line Bracelet with Buckle by Wachenheimer Bros.

This quintessential Art Deco line bracelet (called a flexible bracelet, in its day) with sapphire-glass squares channel-set in sterling silver is a typical example of the maker's high-quality Diamonbar bracelets. The diamanté buckle is part of the clasp. This bracelet was made for a slim wrist, so please note the bracelet length (6 3/4") and check your wrist size before purchasing this piece. I have the same piece with citrine-glass squares, although that bracelet is unsigned. You can wear this type of bracelet alone or in multiples. Scroll down to see some more beautiful sapphire Art Deco pieces to wear with this stunning bracelet.

    Sapphire Art Glass Czech Earrings

These Czech glass earrings feature sapphire-blue oval pendants. Both sides of the translucent molded-glass drops have a diagonal design. When viewed from the front, the pattern appears more complex – somewhat like a honeycomb. The top of each pendant has a diamanté set in decorated white metal. The original screw-backs were replaced with sterling silver wires with lever backs for pierced ears by my expert jeweler. These earrings are truly lovely, timeless, and versatile. Sapphire Chicklet-style Necklace

This Art Deco sapphire necklace of square-cut, faceted pale-blue-glass stones is another variation of the era’s popular chicklet style. The stones are set in silver-tone frames at the center of a delicate chain that may be sterling silver, but it is unmarked. This necklace closes with a spring-ring clasp. A delicate jewel for those who wear cool colors. Perfect for day or evening wear.

    Sapphire Chicklet-style Necklace

This stunning Art Deco jewel, with its faceted, deep-blue-sapphire-glass stones, is an unusual variation of that era's chicklet necklace. This piece has round stones alternating with larger horizontally-set rectangular ones. At the center of the necklace the rectangular stones are vertically-set, to create a focal point. The faceting on these stones is unusual, and the rich-color is divine. The stones are set in and linked with silver-tone metal; only the clasp is marked sterling. This necklace, which closes with a spring-ring clasp, takes the chicklet-style to a whole new level! This jewel walked the runway at Toronto Fashion Week for Spring 2019.
