1920s Jewelry

About 1920s Jewelry

This unique selection of 1920s jewelry includes long earrings, long and short necklaces, narrow bracelets, and brooches. Originally designed for the flapper, these jewels are equally stylish today. Many 1920s costume pieces were made from materials such as white metals, clear and colored glass stones and beads, faux pearls, diamanté, and marcasites, in imitation of fine jewelry. Filigree pieces in white and gilt metal were also popular. Colorful early plastics (Celluloid, Bakelite, and Galalith) were fashioned into novelty pieces at this time. Jewelry in the Art Deco style made its debut in the 1920s.

  • Glass choker necklace with pearls
    Glass plaques alternating with pearls
    USD$245.00

    Glass Plaque & Pearl Choker

    , ,
This glass choker necklace is a delicate 1920s Art Deco design. It has trapezoid-shaped plaques of glass molded in a step-pattern and set in rhodium-plated frames. They alternate with barrel-shaped, cream-colored faux pearls. This elegant jewel, which closes with a barrel clasp, goes with just about everything! This choker was made for a slim neck, but the clasp can be replaced with a spring-ring style and chain extender. Upon close inspection with a loupe, I see minor blemishes on two pearls that do not diminish the beauty of this piece.

  • Whiting & Davis mesh bag
    Close-up of muted colors
    USD$150.00

Gold-tone Metal Mesh Bag by Whiting & Davis

    ,
This Whiting & Davis mesh bag was made from interwoven metal in the 1920s. It has a muted geometric design in red, blue and green on a background of pale gold. At the bottom, the plain border suggests fringe. The frame is gold-tone, with decorative engraving, a chain handle, and unusual clasp. The condition is very good for the age of this piece. I’ve detected one small hole on the side. In addition, if the bottom of the frame was meant to be attached to the mesh, it isn't any longer. Because of the nature of the construction, I would suggest lining the bag with a handkerchief and carrying only lightweight essentials. Still a pretty treasure from the Roaring '20s!

Onyx & Crystal Art Deco Bar Brooch

    , ,
This Art Deco bar brooch is formed from faceted, rectangular onyx-glass and crystal stones. Each end has a faceted, onyx-glass triangle. The silver-tone metal setting has cut-outs, creating a checkered pattern with the stones. They are all open-back, and the workmanship is superb. The trombone clasp and unusual design tell me this brooch is European in origin. I think the setting is sterling silver, but the mark is unreadable.
