1920s Jewelry

This unique selection of 1920s jewelry includes long earrings, long and short necklaces, narrow bracelets, and brooches. Originally designed for the flapper, these jewels are equally stylish today. Many 1920s costume pieces were made from materials such as white metals, clear and colored glass stones and beads, faux pearls, diamanté, and marcasites, in imitation of fine jewelry. Filigree pieces in white and gilt metal were also popular. Colorful early plastics (Celluloid, Bakelite, and Galalith) were fashioned into novelty pieces at this time. Jewelry in the Art Deco style made its debut in the 1920s. Read more about 1920s jewelry and fashion.

    Lapis & Sterling 1920s Bracelet

    , ,
This lapis bracelet features sugar-loaf stones (3/8" high) set in sterling silver that alternate with square glass links in a darker blue. The links and settings are sterling silver. This type of bracelet was called a slave bracelet when it was made in the late 1920s and 1930s. This piece, which closes with a spring-ring clasp, is from my personal collection. Lipstick-Red Glass & Filigree Necklace with Dangles

A faceted, square lipstick-red-glass stone is the focal point of this fun 1920s Art Deco necklace. Faceted triangular stones with filigree panels flank the centerpiece and also form a two-part drop. The paper-clip chain closes with a spring-ring clasp. The metal is chrome or chromium plate. Although the side of one triangle has a tiny dent, it cannot be seen when the necklace is worn. Scroll down to see a wonderful pair of earrings with lipstick-red stones that complements this piece.

Onyx & Crystal 1920s Bar Brooch

    , ,
Faceted, rectangular onyx-glass and crystal stones form the body of this Art Deco bar brooch. Each end has a faceted, onyx-glass triangle. The silver-tone metal setting has cut-outs, creating a checkered pattern with the stones. They are all open-back, and the workmanship is superb. The trombone clasp and unusual design make me think this brooch is European in origin. I also think the setting is sterling silver, but the mark is unreadable. Scroll down to see Art Deco earrings and bracelets that coordinate beautifully with this jewel. Black-and-white, so popular in the Twenties, never goes out of style!

Onyx, Marcasite & Sterling Earrings by Wachenheimer Bros.

    , ,
These onyx, marcasite and sterling silver Art Deco pendant earrings are part of a line the maker called Wachenheimer Real Stone Jewelry. They feature a faceted, onyx (or glass?) stone set with a top border of marcasites and suspended from a marcasite-encrusted slim sterling bar. A square-cut, prong-set onyx stone sits at the earlobe. These all-original screw-back earrings can be modified for pierced ears. By the late 1920s, the company had moved away from their Diamonbar sterling silver flexible bracelets and bangles to this line, but the maker's high-quality is still present in these lovely earrings. Scroll down to see a selection of onyx Art Deco pieces to wear with this versatile pair.

    Pearl & Silver-Mesh Chain 1920s Necklace

    , ,
This pearl and silver chain necklace from the 1920s is dainty. A large irregular faux pearl (which looks like mother-of-pearl coating) capped on both ends with filigree forms the centerpiece. Silver-mesh chain accented with two round faux pearls on each side complete the piece. The mesh between one side pearl and the clasp has very minor fraying. The photos of the center make the filigree caps appear much warmer than they actually are. This necklace, which closes with a spring-ring clasp, was made for a slim neck. Please note the necklace length (14 3/4″) and check your neck size before purchasing this lovely piece. The construction does allow for a chain extender.

    Peridot & Diamanté Pendant Earrings

    , ,
These vintage teardrop earrings each have a faceted, peridot-glass stone with a decorative silver-tone metal cap. It drops from diamanté-embellished links. The yellow-metal shepherd hooks on these delicate and elegant 1920s pendants make me think they are European in origin. Most of the diamanté are cloudy, but they do not detract from the appearance of these beauties – the star attraction is each pale-green-glass drop.
