1920s Jewelry

This unique selection of 1920s jewelry includes long earrings, long and short necklaces, narrow bracelets, and brooches. Originally designed for the flapper, these jewels are equally stylish today. Many 1920s costume pieces were made from materials such as white metals, clear and colored glass stones and beads, faux pearls, diamanté, and marcasites, in imitation of fine jewelry. Filigree pieces in white and gilt metal were also popular. Colorful early plastics (Celluloid, Bakelite, and Galalith) were fashioned into novelty pieces at this time. Jewelry in the Art Deco style made its debut in the 1920s. Read more about 1920s jewelry and fashion.

    Red Glass Double-Hoop Czech Earrings

    , ,
These Art Deco Czech earrings are fun! They have two red-glass hoops dangling from long brass filigree findings. This type of filigree was used extensively by Czech makers during the 1920s. These unusually long (3″), all-original earrings have screw-backs and lots of movement. These earrings can be modified for pierced ears. Wear them with distinction for off-duty activities and business-casual days.

Ruby 1920s Pendant Necklace with Chicklets

    , ,
This delicate 1920s pendant necklace is another variation of the chicklet-style so popular in the Art Deco era. This piece has a beautifully-faceted, rectangular ruby-glass stone suspended from a smaller, oblong-shaped stone along with three chicklets on each side of the chain closest to the center drop. The metal is silver-tone and unmarked. This necklace closes with a spring-ring clasp. I don’t usually like pendants, but this one is special! It’s perfect for a v-neckline.

    Ruby Art Deco Necklace

    , ,
This vintage glass necklace with nine faceted, oval-cut ruby-glass stones in open-back settings is a lovely Art Deco piece. The color is a deep-raspberry. A silver-tone chain with a spring-ring clasp completes this necklace from my personal collection. Although this piece was made for a slim neck, you could easily add a chain extender.

Ruby Bead & Rondelle French Pinwheel Brooch

    , ,
This pinwheel brooch has ruby-glass beads wired in a spiral and adorned with channels of diamanté. A large ruby-glass bead sits on top. Frank Hess designed a nearly identical dress clip for Miriam Haskell circa 1940, but his had diamanté only on the front. This brooch has them on both sides and closes with a trombone clasp on a filigree back. Real or faux diamond ear studs are the perfect accompaniment for this charming French jewel.

    Ruby Bead 1920s Pendant Earrings

    , ,
Another great pair of long Art Deco ruby pendant earrings! Here a molded ruby-glass bead resembling a flower is suspended from a silver-tone chain dotted with two small, faceted ruby-glass beads. A flatter bead in the same color glass is designed to adorn the earlobe. The original screw-backs on these earrings were converted to sterling silver posts for pierced ears by my expert jeweler. Lots of movement with these vibrant earrings, which are another great jewelry wardrobe staple.

Ruby Bead, Emerald Leaf & Brass Dangling Bracelet

    , ,
Ruby- and emerald-glass beads are intertwined with green-pressed-glass leaves in this charming Art Deco dangling bracelet. This piece makes me think of the bunches of grapes motif so popular at this time. The beads, including three extended clusters, and leaves are suspended from a brass link chain. It closes with an old-style spring-ring clasp. This 1920s bracelet is probably European in origin. A fun piece!

    Ruby Chicklet 3-Strand Necklace

    , ,
This vintage multi strand necklace is a variation of the chicklet-style so popular in the 1920s-1930s. Three rows of faceted, ruby-glass chicklets drape in the front, with two larger faceted ruby-glass triangles joining the three rows to the rest of the piece. The chicklets are open-back; the triangles are not. This unusual version of the classic chicklet in hard-to-find red closes with a spring-ring clasp. This necklace is probably Czech in origin. What a great piece for a round or scooped neckline!

Ruby, Diamanté & Sterling 1920s Bar Brooch

    , ,
This Art Deco bar brooch has large, faceted, square-cut ruby-glass stones divided by pairs of round diamanté. This well-made, sterling silver piece is finished with engraved edges and an older-style clasp. The 935 mark, which refers to a higher silver content than the American sterling standard of 925 parts per 1000, makes me think this lovely piece is European in origin. Bar brooches never go out of style, and this one is exceptional! The deep-red stones are perfect for a woman who looks best in cool colors. Just add your own real or faux diamond stud earrings to complete the look.

Sapphire & Crystal 1920s Pendant Earrings

    , ,
These unusual Art Deco pendant earrings feature a large, faceted, bi-color crystal bead. Its top is clear, and the bottom is a deep-sapphire-blue. A small crystal bead is at the center of the silver-tone links, and a silver-tone filigree knot is at the earlobe. These all-original, long (2 1/2") earrings are dainty, yet full of life. The screw-backs can be modified for pierced ears. The screws are marked sterling, but I don't know if the rest of the findings are. Scroll down to see a selection of necklaces and bracelets to wear with these stylish jewels.

When viewed from the front, the pattern appears more complex – somewhat like a honeycomb. The top of each pendant has a diamanté set in decorated white metal. The original screw-backs were replaced with sterling silver wires with lever backs for pierced ears by my expert jeweler. These earrings are truly lovely, timeless, and versatile. They are capped at each end with decorated silver-tone metal and suspended from silver-tone chain. A small diamanté is designed to adorn each earlobe. Sapphire, Diamanté & Sterling Filigree Art Deco Bracelet by Granbery

    , ,
This sterling silver filigree bracelet by Granbery is a fine example of a style that was very popular in the 1920s. With its sapphire-glass baguettes and diamanté accents, this piece has the same construction and appearance as its fine jewelry counterpart. The excellent articulation and clasp with safety catch are the hallmarks of high-quality. Although one of the baguettes has a small surface chip, my expert jeweler has confirmed that the stone is firmly set. The bracelet looks perfect when worn. Granbery advertised their flexible bracelets in the June 1925 issue of The Keystone, a jewelry trade publication. Scroll down to see a selection of sapphire Art Deco necklaces and earrings to wear with this lovely piece.
