1950s Jewelry

About 1950s Jewelry

This authentic 1950s jewelry features amazing art glass, decorative beads, imaginative color combinations, and textured metals. Single- and multi-strand necklaces, cluster earrings, pendant earrings, brooches, bracelets, and sets are included. You will find fabulous fakes – imitations of large-scale fine jewelry – as well as graceful and classic tailored pieces. Gold-tone was more popular than silver-tone in this decade, when clothes that emphasized the female figure were in vogue. Another significant characteristic of the 1950s, other than the ubiquitous simple strand of pearls, was the preference for all accessories – jewels, gloves, handbags, shoes, and hats – to be color coordinated.

  • Alice Caviness earrings with bi-color beads
Black-and-white ear clips by Alice Caviness
    USD$195.00

Onyx & Crystal Bi-color Bead Alice Caviness Earrings

    , ,
These Alice Caviness earrings have clusters of black- and clear-glass bi-colored beads. Some have caps of silver-tone filigree, while other caps are solid metal. These ear clips were designed in the starburst or atomic motif that was popular in the 1950s, yet they are so versatile and wearable now! In fact, these earrings walked the runway at Toronto Fashion Week for Spring 2019. The designer paired them – unexpectedly, yet perfectly – with a 1930s German Art Deco bracelet (which is no longer available).

    USD$495.00

Onyx & Diamanté Brooch by Elsa Schiaparelli

    , ,
This vintage rhinestone brooch is a stunning, three-dimensional 1950s jewel by Elsa Schiaparelli. It is formed by three layered flowers. The centers are clusters of onyx-glass beads that sit atop petals of onyx glass and aurora borealis rhinestones. This iridescent coating on the navettes reflects spectacular colors, creates a sense of movement, and gives this piece so much life. These effects are hard to capture in photos. The brooch setting is silver-tone metal with a roll-over safety clasp. If red is your color, scroll down to see the same design in that fiery hue. Wear either piece to create an unforgettable look!

  • Diamante dangle earrings w/emerald enamel & onyx hoops
    Emerald, onyx & diamante earrings
    USD$345.00

Onyx, Emerald & Diamanté Dangle Earrings

    , ,
These diamanté dangle earrings are inset with emerald enamel accents and have additional sparkling stones at the earlobes. Onyx-glass hoops form the bottom of these lovely and versatile pendants. The ear wires for pierced ears are original, but the lever backs are unmarked. These earrings are probably European in origin. Though Art Deco in style, something about this pair makes me think they may be from a later Revival era. Nevertheless, they are beautiful! • Art glass earrings in pastels, from France
Pale pink, green & blue glass bead earrings
    USD$275.00

Pastel Art Glass Earrings from France

    , ,
These art glass earrings feature pale pink, green and blue beads that dangle on chains suspended from a pink glass button. The pastel-colored beads in different shapes and sizes have white striations. These 1950s ear clips are lovely and versatile, and have lots of movement. Though unsigned, they resemble pieces made by Louis Rousselet. The clues are the glass button at the earlobe and the beauty and uniqueness of the beads. I am not certain, however, because of the style of the ear clip. Nonetheless, these jewels are fun!

  • Blown glass earrings by Louis Rousselet
    1950s Louis Rousselet earrings
    USD$345.00

Pearl & Blown Glass Bead 1950s Pendant Earrings by Louis Rousselet

    , ,
These blown glass ear clips have clusters of beads in greens, purples, and reds, along with pearls. This pair was made by Louis Rousselet, according to Ginger Moro (the author of European Designer Jewelry and a Rousselet expert). Though marked "Charlin" on the ear clips, these pendants are "a re-issue of an earlier design from the '50s using vintage glass beads and pearls", stated Moro in correspondence, when I bought these earrings from her. The colors and design make this pair very versatile and easy to wear for day or evening.

  • Vintage flower earrings probably by Louis Rousselet
1950s French ear clips w/pearls & blown glass beads
    USD$345.00

Pearl & Blown Glass Flower Earrings from France

    , ,
These vintage flower earrings have clusters of tiny faux pearls with blown-glass flowers and leaves. The design and style of the beads remind me of the work of the French maker Louis Rousselet, although the ear clips are not the same as those he typically used. However, the findings I'm familiar with would have been too small for this 1950s creation. Please note that although these earrings are not mirror images, the lack of symmetry – which is not unusual in hand-strung pieces – does not detract from their lovely appearance. What a great choice for a bride!

Pearl & Emerald Blown Glass Brooch

    , ,
This blown glass brooch was made in France in the 1950s. It has pearls and emerald beads in various shapes and sizes, all hand-wired onto a gilt metal filigree back with a trombone clasp. This beautiful three-dimensional piece is in the style of Louis Rousselet. Note that his work was usually signed only with a paper hang tag, so most of his surviving pieces remain unsigned. This spectacular brooch is right for day or evening wear. For a unique look, how about wearing this piece as a wedding accessory – on the bride's gown or in her hair? 1950s French dangling earrings
    USD$345.00

    Pearl Basket French Dangle Earrings

    , ,
These pearl basket earrings were probably made by Louis Rousselet, based on the French filigree back and ear clip he typically used. Each pendant has a basket of glass pearls suspended from a large, single pearl. It's held in place by a cluster of glass pearls mounted on a round, white-metal filigree back. This part is designed to adorn the earlobe. These ear clips are as perfect for a wedding, prom, or special occasion as they are for everyday wear. Add a single strand of pearls and look extraordinary!

Pearl Cluster French 1950s Dangle Earrings

    , ,
These 1950s pearl cluster earrings resemble a bunch of grapes. They are suspended from a large glass-pearl button mounted on a white-metal filigree back. Though unsigned, these ear clips have the traditional filigree back, ear-clip mechanism, and button-bead at the earlobe typically used by Louis Rousselet. Moreover, the unusual shape of the pearls could only have been made by someone of his caliber. (Note that Rousselet pieces were typically signed only with a paper hang tag.) • Vintage gold flower necklace/brooch & earrings
    Floral brooch worn as pendant
    USD$295.00

Pearl, Diamanté & Gold Flower Necklace/Brooch & Earrings Set

    , , , , ,
This vintage gold flower necklace and earrings set from 1950 is a '3-for-1' jewel! It has a trio of heart-shaped blossoms that form the centerpiece, which can be detached and worn as a brooch. The ear clips are single blossoms. The gold-plated fretwork has swirled pavé edges that embrace champagne-colored faux pearls. Attach the brooch to the snake chain by inserting the pin stem through the necklace loops. Pretty clever, eh! While the pendant appears slightly off-center on the chain, its position was fixed at manufacture. Please note that this necklace (which measures 14 3/8″) was made for a slim neck, but you could easily add a chain extender. Wear the pieces together or separately with complimentary contemporary jewels.

  • Pearl and gemstone earrings by Louis Rousselet

    USD$345.00

Pearl, Gemstone Bead & Rondelle Earrings

    , ,
Pearl and gemstone earrings by Louis Rousselet are a welcome and versatile addition to any jewelry wardrobe. These 1950s French ear clips feature faux pearls in various sizes, with accents of ruby, sapphire, emerald and amethyst blown-glass leaves and rondelles. Though unsigned, these earrings match a signed necklace and earrings set that I have moved from my personal collection to offer for sale. The type of ear clip used is another clue to the creator, who usually signed his pieces with only paper hang tags. Rousselet was the premier faux pearl and bead maker in the first half of the 20th century. These earrings are a beautiful example of his work. Although the coating on some pearls appears to have bubbles, I think they are intended. Scroll down to see the magnificent necklace and earrings set in the same design.
