  • German bracelet in tank track pattern
    Front of German bracelet
    USD$345.00

    Diamanté Tank Track German Bracelet

    , ,
This German bracelet features four rows of slightly curved, tapered links channel-set with diamanté. The rhodium-plated setting closes with a concealed clasp and safety catch. Although this piece is unsigned, the tank-track pattern and the bracelet’s construction remind me of pieces made by German companies in the 1930s. This bracelet may have been made in the early 1950s, when the German companies were re-establishing themselves after the war. This bracelet was made for a slim wrist. Please note its length (6 7/8") and measure your wrist before purchasing this piece. Scroll down to see coordinating pieces.

  • Vintage bib necklace with diamanté spray
    1950s German bib necklace
    USD$345.00

    Diamanté Vintage Bib Necklace

    , ,
This vintage bib necklace has a 3 ½”-wide centerpiece of tapered, curved links of channel-set diamanté and sprays of single stones. The setting is rhodium-plated white metal. An adjustable bar link chain with a spring-ring clasp completes the piece. This type of adjustable clasp – instead of the North American-style J-hook – was used by many German jewelry makers in the 1950s. The design and construction of this piece remind me of the work of Schreiber & Hiller, but this necklace is unmarked. Nonetheless, I think it was German-made. A perfect jewel for a woman who looks best in cool colors! Scroll down to see some coordinating bracelets.

  • Triangle necklace with alternating emerald and crystal links
Front of emerald & crystal triangle necklace
    USD$395.00

    Emerald & Crystal Triangle Necklace

    , ,
This triangle necklace from the late-1920s has molded emerald-glass stones alternating with faceted crystals, all set in white-metal frames. Molded glass from this period was used to simulate the carved gemstones made popular by fine jewelers such as Cartier. This piece is Art Deco costume jewelry at its best – the use of strong contrasting colors and a geometric shape. This stunning necklace from my personal collection closes with a spring-ring clasp. Although a few of the crystal triangles have tiny chips, they aren't visible when this piece is worn.

Decorative metal links and an older-style spring-ring clasp complete this classic Art Deco jewel. The color combination and detail in the workmanship are divine. The clasp is marked sterling, but the entire piece probably isn’t. Bracelets of this type were advertised extensively in wholesaler catalogs in the 1920s to early-1930s. Emerald Bead Czech Pendant Earrings

These emerald bead earrings from the early-1930s are Czech in origin. An emerald-glass stone in a silver-tone setting sits at the earlobe. The chain that connects the top and the faceted, round glass ball pendant has a lantern-shaped bead in the middle. The color of the crystal beads is a pale shade of emerald green (without a bluish tint). These all-original screw-back earrings can be modified for pierced ears. • Vintage dress pins with fruit salads and diamanté
    Close-up view of one clip
    USD$275.00

Gemstone Fruit Salad & Diamanté Dress Clips

    , ,
This pair of vintage dress pins has ruby, sapphire, and emerald acorn-shaped glass stones surrounded by diamanté. Costume jewelry makers adopted this practice of molding colored glass in the shapes of leaves or fruits to imitate Indian-carved gemstones used in fine jewelry. Firms such as Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels popularized these fruit salads or tutti frutti in Art Deco pieces. The trio of rubies, sapphires, and emeralds was a favorite combination. The setting of these classic 1930s dress clips is rhodium-plated base metal. Notice the photo showing one clip worn as a pendant on a sterling silver chain (which is not included), to illustrate the versatility of this type of jewel. You probably have a silver or white-gold necklace that would work as well. The utility patent for the dress clip mechanism is here, shown below the name of Anthony E. Waller.

    USD$295.00

Golden Topaz & Silver 1920s Pendant Earrings

    , ,
These 1920s drop earrings are fun and unusual but hard to describe. The pendant is a ball composed of a faceted, golden-topaz-glass disk sandwiched between two shiny, silver-tone domes. A golden-topaz glass stone sits at the ear lobe, and a small bead is at the center of the paper-clip chain. These all-original, long earrings have screw-backs, which can be modified for pierced ears. • Vintage topaz earrings in vermeil sterling
    'Dancing flower' earrings w/golden topaz
    USD$245.00

Golden Topaz & Vermeil Sterling Flower Earrings

    , ,
These vintage topaz earrings look like dancing flowers. Curled sterling silver petals have faceted oval glass stone centers. The metal has a hint of a warm gold wash, which was popular in the 1940s. These graceful Retro Modern jewels are so beautiful and well-made that I’m surprised they are unsigned. These elegant screw-back earrings are timeless and great for both day and evening wear. Note that any color variations in metal are only camera reflections.

  • Green bead necklace w/chrome accents
Green bead & chrome Machine Age necklace
    USD$245.00

    Green Bead & Chrome Necklace

    , ,
This green bead necklace from the 1930s is probably European in origin. A large, faceted glass bead capped with textured metal shaped like flower petals is the centerpiece. Textured chrome balls along with green-glass beads (two flower-shaped with caps, two round ones without) continue up the textured chain to the spring-ring clasp. This playful jewel has a Machine Age-feel. An unusual and delightful piece for a woman who likes to wear warm colors in any season. Scroll down to see a coordinating bracelet.

    Green Galalith Brooch with Diamanté

    , ,
This vintage Galalith brooch is fashioned from a half-dome in light green. When jewelry makers embraced early plastics they no longer needed to imitate gemstones, so the range of colors was limitless. This 1930s piece is embellished with six rings of diamanté. This versatile Art Deco piece is fun to wear and probably European in origin. I love the mix of materials and the choice of green!

  • Art Deco-style earrings with lapis and diamante
Front of lapis & diamante pendant earrings
    USD$295.00

    Lapis & Diamanté Dangling Earrings

    ,
These Art Deco-style earrings are a bit of a mystery. Based on what I’ve seen in Ginger Moro’s book (European Designer Jewelry, p. 49), I’m guessing that this pair was made in Europe in the 1980s from vintage materials. Each rounded-triangular-shaped lapis-glass drop is embellished with diamante and a rectangular onyx-glass stone. The ear wires with lever-backs are original to the earrings and unmarked. Regardless of their date of manufacture, these earrings from my personal collection are distinctive and beautiful. Scroll down to see the same design in camphor glass.

    Lapis Bead Czech Drop Earrings

    , ,
These lapis drop earrings have a pair of glass beads, each capped with flower-petal-shaped metal. The lower bead is 1/2-inch in diameter. The size and color make these pendants a bit bolder in effect than Art Deco pieces from the 1920s. The original screw-backs were replaced with sterling silver posts for pierced ears by my expert jeweler. Scroll down to see a selection of Art Deco jewels to wear with these earrings. Lapis Panel 1930s Pendant Earrings

    , ,
These lapis blue earrings are formed from molded-glass panels that look like carved gemstones. The flower motif in the blue-glass pendants is present in the silver-tone metal components that connect the pendant to the earring top. These all-original, unusual earrings have screw-backs, but they can be modified for pierced ears. Because these Art Deco earrings are 2″ long and bold (the glass panels are 3/4-inch squares), I would wear these drops with only an Art Deco bracelet – scroll down to see a selection.
