About Vintage Bracelets

Vintage bracelets from the Art Deco style of the 1920s-30s, Retro Modern pieces of the 1940s, and 1950s designs by imaginative makers in beautiful materials can be found here. An important accessory to 1920s fashion, when bare arms required adornment, bracelets in this decade were typically worn in multiples. The popular styles were one- , two- , and three-row flexible bracelets (what we now call line or tennis bracelets), filigree bracelets, and bangles. Bracelets got wider and more three-dimensional in the 1930s, as the Machine Age style took hold. In the 1940s, gold-tone snake chains, basket-weave links, and flexible spirals were popular styles. The 1950s produced tailored pieces as well as fabulous fakes.

  • Vintage charm bracelet with black & white cubes
Art Deco tank-track pattern bracelet with charms
    USD$495.00

Black & White Bakelite Vintage Charm Bracelet

    , ,
This vintage charm bracelet has black-and-white Bakelite cubes that dance on either side of the metal center. The decorated chrome links form a tank-track pattern and close with a spring-ring clasp. To some people, these charms resemble a type of licorice candy (whose name I don’t know). To me, this piece says 1930s Europe. It’s definitely fun to wear!

  • Vintage carnelian bracelet w/onyx & marcasites in sterling
Carnelian, onyx & marcasite bracelet in sterling

Carnelian, Onyx, Marcasite & Sterling German Bracelet

    , ,
This vintage carnelian bracelet has faceted glass stones set in rectangular panels. Each is outlined with alternating faux onyx and marcasites. Even the connecting links are adorned. This sterling silver piece is an excellent example of high-quality German craftsmanship of the 1920s-1930s. Based on its width, I'm dating this jewel to the 1920s, when bracelets were narrow and often worn in multiples. This piece has a concealed clasp with a safety catch and was part of my personal collection.

  • Silver filigree bangle with citrine center stone
Filigree & citrine 1920s hinged bracelet
    USD$195.00

    Citrine & Silver Filigree Bangle

    , ,
This silver filigree bangle with intricately-pierced metal has a beautifully faceted, cushion-cut citrine-glass stone as its centerpiece. Wholesale jewelry catalogs of the 1920s described the finish on these bracelets as “permanent white” (i.e., they were designed to not tarnish). In fact, the piece is probably plated with chromium. This hinged bracelet has diamanté accents. Although most have darkened, their condition does not detract from the beauty of this bracelet. This jewel closes with a concealed clasp and safety chain. A dainty, elegant, and well-made addition to any jewelry wardrobe. This bracelet was made for a slim wrist. Please note the bracelet length (6 3/8") and check your wrist size before purchasing this piece.

This chevron link bracelet has diamanté channel-set in tapered, curved links. This pattern is quintessential Art Deco. The rhodium-plated setting closes with a concealed clasp and safety catch. The design and construction of this piece remind me of the work of German makers in the 1930s. Although this jewel is unsigned, I think it is one of their creations. • Diamanté silver bracelet with 3 rows
    Front of German diamante bracelet
    USD$295.00

    Diamanté Link German 1930s Bracelet

    , ,
This diamanté silver bracelet has two rows of long, slender, slightly-curved links of channel-set stones. Each link is trapezoid in shape. A single row of slimmer, short, pointed-top connecting links is in the middle. The setting is rhodium-plated white metal. This bracelet closes with a concealed clasp and safety chain. This piece is unsigned, but it reminds me of the work of the German company Schreiber & Hiller. I think this bracelet was made in the 1930s, but it could have been made around 1950, when German companies were re-emerging after the war. Scroll down to see some complementary pieces.

This German bracelet features four rows of slightly curved, tapered links channel-set with diamanté. The rhodium-plated setting closes with a concealed clasp and safety catch. This lapis bracelet features sugar-loaf stones (3/8" high) set in sterling silver that alternate with square glass links in a darker blue. The links and settings are sterling silver. • Vintage glass bead bracelet in turquoise & diamante
    Turquoise glass bead bracelet w/diamante
    USD$175.00

Turquoise Glass Bead & Diamanté 1950s Bracelet

    , ,
This vintage glass bead bracelet was made in one of the most popular colors of the 1950s: turquoise. It features molded-glass leaves interspersed with diamanté and woven onto a gold-tone mesh cuff. This bold, three-dimensional piece is not for the faint-hearted! Because it has a hinge but no clasp, this bracelet can accommodate a variety of wrist sizes. This is a rare instance where I have two of the same jewels, and they are shown together in the last photo. However, the bracelets are priced separately, so you may choose to buy only one.
