Vintage Earrings

Vintage earrings are one of my favorite types of jewelry, and here you’ll find a vast selection from the 1920s-1950s. From Art Deco dangling styles to bead- and stone-cluster ear clips, this collection features a wide range of colors, materials, and silhouettes. Pieces like chandeliers by Hattie Carnegie or pearl clusters by Louis Rousselet will draw every eye up to your face, adding that little extra sparkle to any look. It’s no wonder earrings are many women’s go-to accessory. Whether adding color or shine to a simple everyday look or bringing that stunning cocktail dress to the next level, the perfect pair of vintage earrings will help to make you and your outfit memorable.

    , ,

These 1930s Art Deco dangling earrings from Austria feature a trio of faceted, rectangular-shaped deep-amethyst glass stones along with teardrop-shaped and round diamanté, all set in rhodium-plated metal. The color combination is striking and easy to wear. These earrings are all-original screw-backs, but they can be modified for pierced ears.

Amethyst & Filigree Drop Art Deco Earrings

    , ,

Faceted pale-amethyst-glass teardrops with silver-tone filigree caps are the focal point of these stunning and elegant 1920s Art Deco earrings. A faceted diamanté sits at the ear lobe, and tiny pale amethyst glass and crystal stones as well as marcasites dot the space in between. The only flaw in these long and hard-to-find earrings is that the tiny stones are different in each earring, but who cares? In my opinion, it’s the pale amethyst drop that counts! These screw-back earrings can be modified for pierced ears. You could wear these earrings with several amethyst Art Deco pieces shown below – scroll down to see them.

Faceted amethyst glass stones with faux pearl accents adorn the silver-tone paper-clip chain on these stunning 1920s Art Deco earrings. They are the epitome of the era’s glamour and style, yet remain modern and classic. These earrings, which are all-original screw-backs, are longer than usual. They can be modified for pierced ears. These earrings look wonderful with many amethyst Art Deco bracelets and necklaces that are available – scroll down to see a selection.

Amethyst 1940s Earrings by Elsa Schiaparelli

    , ,

These classic and classy emerald-cut, amethyst glass late-1940s earrings by Elsa Schiaparelli are Retro Modern in design but really hard to photograph. The stones are open back (without any green, as the photos may suggest) in a silver-tone setting. The actual color is a deep amethyst. These earrings are clip-backs.  I have a faux pearl bracelet with a similar clasp, also by Schiaparelli, which I will include with this purchase. (The clasp of the bracelet is lovely, but the quality of the pearls is disappointing and the strands need re-stringing — hence, the no-cost offer.)

Aquamarine & Sterling Leaf 1940s Earrings by Pennino

    , ,

Curled sterling silver leaves are adorned with aquamarine rhinestones in this lively Pennino creation from the 1940s. The sterling appears warm, as if it might have once been gold-washed. The stones and leaves in these earrings resemble elements in the maker’s Sunburst brooches. These earrings are clip-backs and very versatile.

    Baroque Pearl French 1950s Earrings

    , ,

Small glass round cream-colored pearls surrounding a large glass baroque pearl in the same tone form these 1950s French earrings with clip-backs. Though these earrings are unsigned, the construction (especially the clip-back mechanism) and materials are consistent with those used by Louis Rousselet. These earrings would make a lovely accessory for daytime, evening or bridal/wedding/prom wear.

Black & White Bakelite Art Deco Dangle Earrings

    , ,

These Art Deco dangle earrings are an example of the whimsical type of jewelry that could be produced when the early plastics, such as Bakelite and Galalith, became available. Each earring features a trio of black-and-white Bakelite (?) cubes dangling from chrome bars and links. Two cubes are the same length, while the third is longer. These all-original earrings have ear wires with lever backs for pierced ears. The findings are unmarked, so I don’t know the metal content. Scroll down to see an equally fun matching bracelet.

Black Bakelite & Diamanté 1930s Earrings by Schreiber & Hiller

    , ,

At the top of these 1930s earrings is a link with engraved sides that holds seven diamanté. At the bottom is another diamanté -set link flanked by black Bakelite on three sides. In the middle is a single stone. Each earring has a small chip of Bakelite at the bottom, but that minor flaw in no way detracts from their beauty. The original ear clips were converted to sterling silver ear wires with lever backs for pierced ears by my expert jeweler. Black Bakelite & Diamanté Art Deco Dangle Earrings

    , ,

The drops of these unusual Art Deco black Bakelite (or other plastic from the 1920s) earrings are embellished with a silver painted design and inlaid diamanté. A sterling chain connects each drop to a diamanté-centered black bead designed to adorn the earlobe. These all-original screw-back earrings can be modified for pierced ears. Light-weight and easy to wear, these fun earrings work well for off-duty and business-casual wear. Blue Art Glass & Diamanté Art Deco Drop Earrings

    , ,

These vintage drop earrings feature blue art glass stones with faint striations and filigree caps falling from links of rectangular and round diamanté set in white metal. The original screw-backs were converted to sterling silver lever-backs for pierced ears by my expert jeweler. These unusual Art Deco earrings are a lovely shade of blue. Although the diamanté are ageing, the blue stones — which are the star attraction — are perfect. I bought these earrings for my personal collection, but I’m reluctantly offering them for sale.

Camphor Glass Earrings with Diamanté & Onyx

    ,

These camphor glass earrings were made in the Art Deco style and were very difficult to photograph in the hanging position (first photo). The camphor glass is more opaque than that picture suggests. The pendants are embellished with diamanté triangles and rectangular onyx glass stones. The ear wires with lever-backs for pierced ears are original to the earrings and unmarked. I have seen similar earrings in Ginger Moro’s book (European Designer Jewelry, p. 49) described as being made from vintage pieces. From my perspective, the date of their manufacture doesn’t detract from the elegance and glamour these earrings provide the wearer. Scroll down to see the same design in lapis.

These vintage carnelian earrings feature rings and beads suspended from sterling silver chain. At 3 1/8” in length, these fabulous German Art Deco earrings are fun to wear. I love the way the chain goes around the rings. This “life-saver” motif was popular in 1920s jewelry. The original screw-backs were converted to sterling silver posts for pierced ears by my expert jeweler. These earrings are from my personal collection.
