About Vintage Earrings

Vintage earrings are one of my favorite types of jewelry, and here you’ll find a vast selection from the 1920s-1950s. From Art Deco dangling styles to bead- and stone-cluster ear clips, this collection features a wide range of colors, materials, and silhouettes. Pieces like chandeliers by Hattie Carnegie or pearl clusters by Louis Rousselet will draw every eye up to your face, adding that little extra sparkle to any look. It’s no wonder earrings are many women’s go-to accessory. Whether adding color or shine to a simple everyday look or bringing that stunning cocktail dress to the next level, the perfect pair of vintage earrings will help to make you and your outfit memorable.

  • Vintage amethyst earrings w/diamantes
    Close-up view of single earring
    USD$295.00

Amethyst & Diamanté Earrings from Austria

    , ,
These vintage amethyst earrings feature three rows of vertically-set stones. In the middle are two deep-purple baguettes with a round diamanté on top and a faceted, teardrop-shaped diamanté at the bottom. On either side of the middle, the pattern is repeated but with a single baguette. The setting is rhodium-plated metal shaped to hold the stones together, making each pendant one piece. A single, faceted, round diamanté sits at the earlobe. These 1930s Art Deco earrings from Austria are all-original screw-backs and can be modified for pierced ears. The color combination is rich, regal, and easy-to-wear.

  • Amethyst costume earrings by Elsa Schiaparelli

    USD$185.00

    Amethyst Earrings by Elsa Schiaparelli

    , ,
These amethyst costume earrings by Elsa Schiaparelli feature the single, large, emerald-cut stones that were so popular in the 1940s. Although classic and classy, this pair of ear clips is really hard to photograph. The stones are open back (without any green, as the photos may suggest) in a silver-tone setting. The actual color is a deep purple. The faux pearl bracelet with a similar clasp by the same maker, which came with the earrings, will be included with this purchase. (The clasp of the bracelet is lovely, but the quality of the pearls is disappointing, and the strands need re-stringing – hence, the no-cost offer.) Earrings like these never go out of style!

  • Aquamarine earrings by Pennino Bros.
Flirty 1940s earrings by Pennino Brothers
    USD$245.00

Aquamarine Floral Earrings by Pennino Bros.

    , ,
These aquamarine earrings were made by Pennino Bros. in the 1940s. The curled, flirty flower petals in gold-washed metal are the same shape and finish this maker used in a series of 1947 brooches called Sunburst. The glass stone settings are the same as their Bulrush brooch and earrings set from the same year. Both were made in vermeil sterling. According to Brunialti, the patent pending mark on these earrings refers to the clip mechanism, as these designs were not patented. Because the sterling mark is on the ear clip only, I can't say for sure that this pair is sterling silver. These details are just for background – all Pennino jewels are divine! And by facing each other, these earrings frame your face to perfection. Please note that bright spots are merely lighting reflections.

  • Baroque pearl earrings in Louis Rousselet-style
1950s cream-colored faux pearl ear clips
    USD$275.00

    Baroque Pearl Earrings from France

    , ,
These baroque pearl earrings have a large, cream-colored glass pearl center encircled by a ring of small, matching round glass pearls. Though these 1950s earrings are unsigned, the ear-clip mechanism and materials are consistent with those used by Louis Rousselet. (His pieces were usually only signed with paper hang tags.) These earrings would make a lovely accessory for daytime, evening, or bridal/wedding/prom wear.

1930s earrings by Schreiber & Hiller
    USD$245.00

Black Bakelite & Diamanté 1930s Earrings by Schreiber & Hiller

    , ,
At the top of these 1930s earrings is a link with engraved sides that holds seven diamantés. At the bottom is another diamanté-set link flanked by black Bakelite (or Galalith) on three sides. In the middle is a single stone. Each earring has a small chip of Bakelite at the bottom, but that minor flaw in no way detracts from their beauty. The original ear clips were converted to sterling silver ear wires with lever backs for pierced ears by my expert jeweler. Scroll down to see two necklaces and a bracelet with the same materials by the same maker.

  • Black vintage Bakelite earrings with diamanté-inlaid pendants
    Art Deco black Bakelite earrings
    USD$225.00

Black Bakelite & Diamanté Dangle Earrings

    , ,
These vintage Bakelite earrings are unusual. The pendants in black Bakelite (or other plastic from the 1920s) are embellished with a silver painted design and inlaid diamantés. A sterling chain connects each drop to a diamanté-centered black bead designed to adorn the earlobe. These all-original screw-back earrings can be modified for pierced ears. Light-weight and easy to wear, this fun pair works well for off-duty and business-casual attire. Although many of the stones have darkened, these earrings are still very attractive. • 1950s blue bead earrings by Hattie Carnegie
    Blue bead ear clips
    USD$185.00

Blue Bead Earrings by Hattie Carnegie

    , ,
These blue bead earrings by Hattie Carnegie are an imaginative example of the style that was so popular in the 1950s. They are formed by clusters of blue-glass beads in varying shapes, tones, sizes and finishes. The combination adds dimension to these ear clips. A few of the beads are iridescent because of their aurora borealis coating. Scroll down to see the Blue Glass Bead 2-strand Choker by the same designer. • Brown and gold topaz earrings by Elsa Schiaparelli
1950s ornate pendant earrings by Elsa Schiaparelli
    USD$185.00

Brown & Golden Topaz Pendant Earrings by Elsa Schiaparelli

    , ,
These brown and gold topaz earrings by Elsa Schiaparelli feature multiple stones in a gold-tone setting. At the top, a large, faceted, round golden-topaz-glass stone is positioned to adorn your earlobe. This stone is linked to a smaller, faceted, round brown-topaz-glass stone, which is connected to the setting of the pendant. This focal point – the pendant – is a large, faceted, open-back, brown-topaz-glass stone in an ornate setting. Its top is crowned with diamanté; the bottom rests on a scroll accented with another brown topaz. Please note that the dark striations in the large stones shown by my camera are not visible when the earrings are worn. Though not signed with the maker’s name, these ear clips are marked with the utility patent for one type of finding Schiaparelli used. The design of these pendants is undoubtedly hers – the matching signed bracelet has been sold. A perfect pair for those who wear warm colors.

  • Camphor glass earrings with diamante and onyx
Front view of camphor glass Art Deco style earrings
    USD$295.00

Camphor Glass Earrings with Diamanté & Onyx

    ,
These camphor glass earrings were made in the Art Deco style and were very difficult to photograph in the hanging position. The camphor glass is more opaque than the first picture suggests; the second is a more accurate depiction. The pendants are embellished with diamanté triangles and rectangular onyx-glass stones. The ear wires with lever-backs for pierced ears are original to the earrings and unmarked. I have seen similar earrings in Ginger Moro’s book (European Designer Jewelry, p. 49) described as being made from vintage components. From my perspective, the date of their manufacture doesn’t detract from the elegance and glamour these earrings provide the wearer. Scroll down to see the same design in lapis. Both pairs were in my personal collection.

    , ,
These Art Deco dangle earrings feature two faceted, oblong chrysoprase-glass stones with a faceted, round collet-set crystal at the bottom. Each stone is separated by a ring link, so there’s plenty of movement here. The original screw-backs were converted to sterling silver ear wires with lever backs for pierced ears by my expert jeweler. Citrine, Golden Topaz & Mother-of-Pearl Earrings

    , ,
These citrine and topaz earrings by Alice Caviness are a colorful and complex design. They feature layers of citrine- and golden-topaz-glass beads along with aurora borealis diamantés, mother-of-pearl disks, and textured brass leaves. These elements are wired onto a brass mesh back, which is mounted on a filigree scalloped-edged disk. This is the type of creation that leads me to say that this maker is underrated. • Diamante earrings shaped like flowers by Miriam Haskell

Diamanté & Bead Flower Earrings by Miriam Haskell

    , ,
These flower-shaped diamante earrings are much more beautiful than the photos convey. Six petals formed from tiny clear- and grey-glass bi-color beads wired together surround each large, faceted, round diamanté center. Designed by Frank Hess, this elegant pair features the style and workmanship that characterize Miriam Haskell pieces. The use of French ear clips dates these earrings to no earlier than the late-1940s, but I think the style is more 1950s. You can wear this pair for a special occasion or with everyday attire – they go with everything! They even sparkled on the runway at Toronto Fashion Week for Spring 2019!

Diamanté & Gold Disk Brooch & Earrings Set by Pennino Bros.

    , , , ,
These gold disk earrings and brooch were made by Pennino Bros. in the 1950s. Pavé disks intersect and overlay the scored disks of gold-tone metal, which remind me of open fans. The layered design and construction of this set are characteristic of exceptional makers like this one. The brooch closes with a roll-over safety clasp. Note that about 1/4″ of the pavé disk on each ear clip will sit below your earlobe. Wear these lovely earrings and brooch together or separately, to create different looks. • Vintage dangle earrings in silver with diamante
    Close-up view of earring top
    USD$395.00

Diamanté & Silver Vintage Dangle Earrings

    , ,
These vintage dangle earrings are diamanté-encrusted with faceted, square-cut stones at the earlobe and as the focal point on the drop. Long and luxurious, these all-original Art Deco pendants have gold-colored ear wires with shepherd hooks for pierced ears. I am unaware of their metal content. I think these beautiful earrings are European in origin because of their exceptional quality, their fasteners, and the "SILVER" stamp on the back. The use of "800 silver" (which is less than the 925 standard for sterling) was common in Europe when these jewels were made. Pieces like these are difficult to photograph, and the earrings are much brighter and more sparkly than the photos indicate. This glamorous pair walked the runway at a recent fashion show.
