About Vintage Earrings

Vintage earrings are one of my favorite types of jewelry, and here you’ll find a vast selection from the 1920s-1950s. From Art Deco dangling styles to bead- and stone-cluster ear clips, this collection features a wide range of colors, materials, and silhouettes. Pieces like chandeliers by Hattie Carnegie or pearl clusters by Louis Rousselet will draw every eye up to your face, adding that little extra sparkle to any look. It’s no wonder earrings are many women’s go-to accessory. Whether adding color or shine to a simple everyday look or bringing that stunning cocktail dress to the next level, the perfect pair of vintage earrings will help to make you and your outfit memorable.

  • Vintage Austrian earrings w/amethysts & diamante
Amethyst & diamante 1930s pendant earrings
    USD$295.00

Amethyst & Diamanté 1930s Austrian Earrings

    , ,
These vintage Austrian earrings feature three rows of vertically-set stones. In the middle are two deep-amethyst baguettes with a round diamanté on top and a faceted, teardrop-shaped diamanté at the bottom. On either side of the middle, the pattern is repeated but with a single baguette. The setting is rhodium-plated metal shaped to hold the stones together, making each pendant one piece. A single, faceted, round diamanté sits at the earlobe. These 1930s Art Deco earrings are all-original screw-backs and can be modified for pierced ears. The color combination is rich, regal, and easy-to-wear.

    Amethyst Earrings by Elsa Schiaparelli

    , ,
These amethyst costume earrings by Elsa Schiaparelli feature the single, large, emerald-cut stones that were so popular in the 1940s. Although classic and classy, this pair of ear clips is really hard to photograph. The stones are open back (without any green, as the photos may suggest) in a silver-tone setting. The actual color is a deep purple. The faux pearl bracelet with a similar clasp by the same maker, which came with the earrings, will be included with this purchase. (The clasp of the bracelet is lovely, but the quality of the pearls is disappointing, and the strands need re-stringing – hence, the no-cost offer.) Earrings like these never go out of style!

  • Flower petal earrings in gold-washed sterling with aquamarines
Flirty 1940s earrings by Pennino Brothers
    USD$225.00

Aquamarine & Vermeil Sterling Flower Petal Earrings by Pennino Bros.

    , ,
These lively flower petal earrings with aquamarine-glass-stone centers were made by Pennino Bros. in the 1940s. The curled, flirty flower petals in gold-washed sterling silver are the same shape and finish this maker used in a series of 1947 brooches, called Sunburst. The stone settings are the same as their Bulrush brooch and earrings set from the same year. According to Brunialti, the patent pending mark on the earrings refers to the clip mechanism. These designs were not patented. These details are just for background – these ear clips are divine! And by facing each other, they frame your face to perfection.

    Baroque Pearl French 1950s Earrings

    , ,
These baroque pearl earrings have a large, cream-colored glass pearl center encircled by a ring of small, matching round pearls. Though these 1950s earrings are unsigned, the construction (especially the ear-clip mechanism) and materials are consistent with those used by Louis Rousselet. (His pieces were usually only signed with paper hang tags.) These earrings would make a lovely accessory for daytime, evening, or bridal/wedding/prom wear.

Black Bakelite & Diamanté 1930s Earrings by Schreiber & Hiller

    , ,
At the top of these 1930s earrings is a link with engraved sides that holds seven diamanté. At the bottom is another diamanté -set link flanked by black Bakelite on three sides. In the middle is a single stone. Each earring has a small chip of Bakelite at the bottom, but that minor flaw in no way detracts from their beauty. The original ear clips were converted to sterling silver ear wires with lever backs for pierced ears by my expert jeweler. Black Bakelite & Diamanté Dangle Earrings

These vintage Bakelite earrings are unusual. The pendants in black Bakelite (or other plastic from the 1920s) are embellished with a silver painted design and inlaid diamanté. A sterling chain connects each drop to a diamanté-centered black bead designed to adorn the earlobe. These all-original screw-back earrings can be modified for pierced ears. • Vintage drop earrings with blue glass and diamanté
Blue art glass and diamanté vintage drop earrings
    USD$245.00

Blue Art Glass & Diamanté Drop Earrings

    , ,
These vintage drop earrings feature blue art-glass teardrops with faint striations and filigree caps. They fall from links of baguettes and round diamanté set in silver-tone metal. The original screw-backs were converted to sterling silver ear wires with lever backs for pierced ears by my expert jeweler. These unusual Art Deco earrings are a lovely shade of blue. Although the diamanté are ageing, the blue stones – which are the star attraction – are perfect. I bought these earrings for my personal collection, but I'm reluctantly offering them for sale. They're the perfect adornment for a woman who looks best in cool colors.

Blue Bead Earrings by Hattie Carnegie

    , ,
These blue bead earrings by Hattie Carnegie are an imaginative example of the style that was so popular in the 1950s. They are formed by clusters of blue-glass beads in varying shapes, tones, sizes and finishes. The combination adds dimension to these ear clips. USD$185.00

Brown & Golden Topaz Pendant Earrings by Elsa Schiaparelli

    , ,
These brown and gold topaz earrings by Elsa Schiaparelli feature multiple stones in a gold-tone setting. At the top, a large, faceted, round golden-topaz-glass stone is positioned to adorn your earlobe. This stone is linked to a smaller, faceted, round brown-topaz-glass stone, which is connected to the setting of the pendant. This focal point – the pendant – is a large, faceted, open-back, brown-topaz-glass stone in an ornate setting. Its top is crowned with diamanté; the bottom rests on a scroll accented with another brown topaz. Please note that the dark striations in the large stones shown by my camera are not visible when the earrings are worn. Though not signed with the maker’s name, these ear clips are marked with the utility patent for one type of finding Schiaparelli used. The design of these pendants is undoubtedly hers – the matching signed bracelet has been sold. A perfect pair for those who wear warm colors.

    USD$475.00

Brown Topaz & Citrine 1950s Schreiner Brooch & Earrings Set

    , , , ,
This Shreiner brooch, the centerpiece of this 1950s set, features huge, multi-faceted, oval brown-topaz glass stones. They are accented with layers of citrine and clear inverted glass stones, all in elaborate gold-tone settings. Even if the pieces weren't signed, the gorgeous glass, inverted stones, ornate settings, and donut-hole ear clips scream SCHREINER! This great color combination is stunning in any season. The earrings face each other, to frame your face. The dome-shaped brooch, which has a roll-over safety clasp, can also be worn as a pendant. • Camphor glass earrings with diamante and onyx
Front view of camphor glass Art Deco style earrings
    USD$295.00

Camphor Glass Earrings with Diamanté & Onyx

    ,
These camphor glass earrings were made in the Art Deco style and were very difficult to photograph in the hanging position. The camphor glass is more opaque than the first picture suggests; the second is a more accurate depiction. The pendants are embellished with diamanté triangles and rectangular onyx-glass stones. The ear wires with lever-backs for pierced ears are original to the earrings and unmarked. I have seen similar earrings in Ginger Moro’s book (European Designer Jewelry, p. 49) described as being made from vintage components. From my perspective, the date of their manufacture doesn’t detract from the elegance and glamour these earrings provide the wearer. Scroll down to see the same design in lapis. , ,
These emerald costume earrings by Miriam Haskell feature a melon-shaped glass bead capped with a tiny emerald-glass stone covered by four Russian-gold prongs. This centerpiece is encircled by smaller melon beads with twisted Russian-gold spacers. These components are wired together by hand and attached to a gold-tone metal filigree foundation. • Crescent earrings w/gemstones by De Rosa
    Gemstones that spell 'dearest'
    USD$295.00

    Gemstone & Sterling Crescent Earrings

    , ,
These crescent earrings with gemstone-colored glass stones set in sterling silver were made by Ralph De Rosa. The gems are graduated in size and enhanced with an inner ring of diamanté. The variety of colors makes these ear clips very versatile. Moreover, the faux diamond, emerald, amethyst, ruby, emerald, sapphire and topaz form the word dearest, making these earrings acrostic (i.e., the initials of the stones form a word or name). This type of sentimental jewelry was very popular in the 19th century Victorian era, a style that inspired some 1940s jewelry designers. De Rosa created a Dearest series, which included brooches, in 1949. This maker's pieces are always exceptionally well-made and hard-to-find.

Though unsigned, these delightful 1950s creations feature the same style of ear clip typically used by Louis Rousselet. What’s more significant is the way the earrings are constructed: on the backs we see the flower-shaped links to which the beads are wired, a unique trait of this maker’s work. These milk glass earrings with beads and disks, rondelles, and gold-tone findings have a real Machine Age-look and associated movement. However, the use of French ear clips dates them to the late-1940s, and the white beads may take them into the 1950s, when white jewelry was extremely popular. I still consider this pair to be Art Deco in style, and I’ve seen the same motif used by this designer (Frank Hess) on earlier Miriam Haskell pieces. This vintage gold flower necklace and earrings set from 1950 is a '3-for-1' jewel! It has a trio of heart-shaped blossoms that form the centerpiece, which can be detached and worn as a brooch. The ear clips are single blossoms. The gold-plated fretwork has swirled pavé edges that embrace champagne-colored faux pearls. Attach the brooch to the snake chain by inserting the pin stem through the necklace loops. Pretty clever, eh! While the pendant appears slightly off-center on the chain, its position was fixed at manufacture. Pearl, Gemstone Bead & Rondelle Earrings by Louis Rousselet

Pearl and gemstone earrings by Louis Rousselet are a welcome and versatile addition to any jewelry wardrobe. These Art Deco pendant earrings are wonderfully unusual. Each features a large, faceted, bi-color crystal bead. Its top is clear, and the bottom is a deep-sapphire-blue. A small crystal bead is at the center of the silver-tone links, and a silver-tone filigree knot is at the earlobe. These all-original, long (2 1/2″) earrings are dainty, yet full of life. The screw-backs can be modified for pierced ears. The screws are marked "sterling", but I don’t know if the rest of the findings are. Sapphire Poured Glass Earrings by Hattie Carnegie

    , ,
These blue sapphire costume earrings feature translucent poured glass in a delicately-detailed gold-tone setting. The design is timeless and versatile! These 1950s ear clips were one of the Hattie Carnegie creations chosen by the designer to walk the runway at Toronto Fashion Week for Spring 2019. He paired them with an Art Deco necklace in a similar blue worn by a model in a black-and-white houndstooth evening gown. I confess that I was both surprised and delighted with this choice, and the audience was definitely pleased. Although that necklace is no longer available, scroll down to see a similar piece.

Turquoise & Sapphire Earrings by Alice Caviness

    , ,
These vintage turquoise glass earrings are an imaginative 1950s design by Alice Caviness. An unusual textured turquoise stone shaped like a thick button with some sparkle is the centerpiece. Glass beads in sapphire blue (coated with aurora borealis) and turquoise set in gold-tone filigree surround half of the turquoise center. The components are mounted (wired?) onto a filigree back that holds the ear clip. The earrings face each other, so they beautifully frame the face when worn. This pair showcases this designer’s clever mix of colors and materials.
