1920s Jewelry, Unsigned Jewelry, Vintage NecklacesThis 1920s necklace of faceted, square-cut amethyst-glass stones set in silver-tone frames with a delicate chain closes with a filigree fish-hook clasp. This style has taken on the modern-day term chicklet. Please note that the color saturation of the stones is even ― any differences in the photos are due to lighting. Vintage Miriam Haskell Jewelry, Vintage NecklacesThis Miriam Haskell pearl necklace is a beautiful example of this maker’s work. The long strand of faux cream baroque pearls and pearl bead spacers is interspersed with faceted amethyst glass beads. The pearls are textured and somewhat varying in size. Wear this piece as a single long strand or doubled, depending on your neckline and the look you want to create. Although I usually prefer earlier vintage jewels, this beautiful necklace was part of my personal collection because it is so elegant, timeless and versatile. The wear to the nacre of some pearls does not detract in any way from the lovely appearance of this piece.USD$345.00USD$345.00Black & White Marbled Glass Bead French Necklace
1930s Jewelry, Unsigned Jewelry, Vintage NecklacesThis 1930s French necklace is a lovely take on black-and-white. What appear as white glass beads are actually clear glass with white swirls. The variation in shape and size of beads adds to the beauty of this substantial piece. The beads and black spacers are strung on chain. This jewel closes with a bee-hive screw-in clasp. 1930s Jewelry, Schreiber & Hiller Jewelry, Vintage NecklacesA beautiful example of Machine Age design that you will love. This vintage black Bakelite necklace features six curved links set with diamanté that alternate with Bakelite links with roof-shaped (pointed) tops. Because the jeweled links are curved, the centerpiece follows the curve of your neck instead of laying out in a straight line. 1950s Jewelry, Hattie Carnegie Jewelry, Vintage NecklacesThis blue bead choker necklace is made from the unusual, high-quality beads typically used by Hattie Carnegie. Chrome Necklace & Bracelet with Glass Links
1930s Jewelry, Costume Jewelry Sets / Parures, Jakob Bengel Jewelry, Vintage Bracelets, Vintage NecklacesThis chrome necklace and matching bracelet with molded glass links is so unusual that its origin has been debated by the expert in European costume jewelry – Ginger Moro. Her book European Designer Jewelry describes the pieces as Belgian (where the Art Deco style was “a synthesis of French and German styles”). When I purchased the set, she told me that she had bought it in Brussels about 40 years ago from a dealer who also had sold her some Bengel jewelry. At that time, before the first Bengel book was published, no one knew about the firm. Since then, Moro and the dealer have decided that this set had to be by Bengel for three reasons: “nobody else was doing any chrome jewelry that sophisticated”; the dealer had bought it from the same source as other Bengel pieces; and they discovered that Bengel was working with glass links. I don’t think the maker matters. This Machine Age look is modern and striking! The color of the glass segments, which are pale pink in reality, is very difficult to capture in photographs. As Ginger said, the glass "melts into your skin". The necklace closes with a hook; the bracelet has a spring-ring clasp. This necklace was made for a slim neck, so please note the length (14 3/4") and check your neck size before purchasing this set.USD$995.00USD$995.00 Chrysoprase & Chrome Machine Age Necklace

All are mounted on linked silver-tone frames, in the style of Art Deco chicklet necklaces. Although unmarked, the design and quality of this jewel make me think it was made in Germany. The faceting of the crystals is superb, and the mountings of the stones are highly-decorated. The silver-tone metal may be sterling, although the stone frames are unmarked. The components are strung on metal chain. The necklace closes with a screw-in clasp formed by two of the disks. Based on the construction of this piece, I think it is European in origin. As often happens with necklaces made like this one, the chain has stretched. I don’t recommend having a jeweler cut the excess – just keep it at the back. Golden yellow, square-cut glass stones alternate with oblong crystals to form the necklace and tiered centerpiece. Round dangling citrine-glass stones add the movement that was so essential in the Art Deco era. All of the stones are faceted and mounted in decorated, silver-tone metal. The construction makes me think this piece was made in Europe. This divine jewel, which I initially purchased for myself, closes with a spring-ring clasp. A pear-shaped diamanté adorns the tail of the hook-and-tail closure of the snake chain. This piece is another great example of the work Adolph Katz produced for Coro’s high-end line. What’s interesting is that this piece appears in an October 1, 1953 Vogue ad with the following copy: “excitingly beautiful as Paris by night … Vendome by Coro“. (Vendome later became another one of the company’s high-end lines.) Also of interest is the difference of the clasp on the necklace versus that shown on the design patent.USD$275.00USD$275.00Diamanté German Snake Chain Necklace
1930s Jewelry, Unknown (Maker's Mark is Unknown), Vintage NecklacesThis snake chain necklace from Germany has a curved centerpiece with a Machine Age-look. The white-metal links with channel-set stones are separated by trios of flat-metal links. All are connected with flat disks at the top and bottom (probably to cover a connecting chain). At each end is a triangle-shaped element formed by two long and one short link with channel-set stones. This piece closes with a spring-ring clasp. Although I had always associated snake chains with the 1940s, I just learned that they were first introduced in 1850. This necklace has a maker’s mark, but I have been unable to identify the company. Although this necklace was made for a slim neck (the length is 14 1/2"), you could add a chain extender if needed. This type of adjustable clasp – instead of the North American-style J-hook – was used by many German jewelry makers in the 1950s.
