  • Miriam Haskell pearl necklace with amethyst beads
Miriam Haskell pearl necklace with amethysts, doubled
    USD$345.00

Baroque Pearl & Amethyst Bead 1970s Long Necklace by Miriam Haskell

    ,
This Miriam Haskell pearl necklace is a beautiful example of this maker’s work. The long strand of faux cream baroque pearls and pearl bead spacers is interspersed with faceted amethyst glass beads. The pearls are textured and somewhat varying in size. Wear this piece as a single long strand or doubled, depending on your neckline and the look you want to create. Although I usually prefer earlier vintage jewels, this beautiful necklace was part of my personal collection because it is so elegant, timeless and versatile. The wear to the nacre of some pearls does not detract in any way from the lovely appearance of this piece.

  • Baroque pearl earrings in Louis Rousselet-style
1950s cream-colored faux pearl ear clips
    USD$275.00

    Baroque Pearl Earrings from France

    , ,
These baroque pearl earrings have a large, cream-colored glass pearl center encircled by a ring of small, matching round glass pearls. Though these 1950s earrings are unsigned, the ear-clip mechanism and materials are consistent with those used by Louis Rousselet. (His pieces were usually only signed with paper hang tags.) These earrings would make a lovely accessory for daytime, evening, or bridal/wedding/prom wear.

  • 1930s handbag with black & silver beads
Close-up view of silver beaded floral design on front
    USD$225.00

Black & Silver Beaded 1930s Handbag

This 1930s handbag is just gorgeous! It is covered in black beads with a silver bead decoration on the front and back. The top handle is also covered in black beads. Aside from the lovely floral design, what makes this bag extraordinary is the decorative top of the silver metal frame. The fretwork is continued on the clasp, which hangs in the front. The inside has a smooth, shiny fabric lining with a pocket on each side. One holds a two-sided 2 ½” x 1 5/8” mirror with beveled edges. The high-quality of this unusual bag is felt in its weight. I confess that I'm guessing at the date of the purse, but I don't think that matters. What a lovely and distinctive evening accessory!

  • Vintage charm bracelet with black & white cubes
Art Deco tank-track pattern bracelet with charms
    USD$495.00

Black & White Bakelite Vintage Charm Bracelet

    , ,
This vintage charm bracelet has black-and-white Bakelite cubes that dance on either side of the metal center. The decorated chrome links form a tank-track pattern and close with a spring-ring clasp. To some people, these charms resemble a type of licorice candy (whose name I don’t know). To me, this piece says 1930s Europe. It’s definitely fun to wear!

Black & White Marbled Glass Bead French Necklace

    , ,
This 1930s French necklace is a lovely take on black-and-white. What appear as white glass beads are actually clear glass with white swirls. The variation in shape and size of beads adds to the beauty of this substantial piece. The beads and black spacers are strung on chain. This jewel closes with a barrel clasp. Once part of my personal collection, this stunning piece is perfect for a woman who likes to wear cool colors.

  • 1930s earrings with black Bakelite & diamanté
1930s earrings by Schreiber & Hiller
    USD$245.00

Black Bakelite & Diamanté 1930s Earrings by Schreiber & Hiller

    , ,
At the top of these 1930s earrings is a link with engraved sides that holds seven diamantés. At the bottom is another diamanté-set link flanked by black Bakelite (or Galalith) on three sides. In the middle is a single stone. Each earring has a small chip of Bakelite at the bottom, but that minor flaw in no way detracts from their beauty. The original ear clips were converted to sterling silver ear wires with lever backs for pierced ears by my expert jeweler. • Black vintage Bakelite earrings with diamanté-inlaid pendants
    Art Deco black Bakelite earrings
    USD$225.00

Black Bakelite & Diamanté Dangle Earrings

    , ,
These vintage Bakelite earrings are unusual. The pendants in black Bakelite (or other plastic from the 1920s) are embellished with a silver painted design and inlaid diamantés. A sterling chain connects each drop to a diamanté-centered black bead designed to adorn the earlobe. These all-original screw-back earrings can be modified for pierced ears. Light-weight and easy to wear, this fun pair works well for off-duty and business-casual attire. Although many of the stones have darkened, these earrings are still very attractive. Black Bakelite & Diamanté Flexible Bracelet by Schreiber & Hiller

    , ,
Vintage Bakelite jewelry as beautiful as this German flexible bracelet from the 1930s is hard to find. It has vertical links of diamanté alternating with black Bakelite. The stones in this piece are relatively large – only four to each flat-top link. This Art Deco bracelet closes with a concealed clasp. Because one of the markings is "Patented" (an English word stamped by a German maker), I think this bracelet was intended for export. Black Bakelite & Diamanté Art Deco Brooch

This Art Deco Bakelite brooch is not for the faint-hearted! From the 1930s, this large black jewel has ornate hand-carving accented with faceted, square-cut and round diamanté. The stones, which were expertly replaced by the previous owner, are a sparkly contrast to the dark color. At 3 ¾” long, this brooch is a real statement piece. It closes with a roll-over safety clasp.

  • Vintage black Bakelite necklace with diamanté links.
German Machine Age necklace by Schreiber & Hiller
    USD$445.00

Black Bakelite & Diamanté Necklace by Schreiber & Hiller

    , ,
A beautiful example of Machine Age design that you will love. This vintage black Bakelite necklace features six curved links set with diamantés that alternate with Bakelite (or Galalith) links with pointed tops. Because the jeweled links are curved, the centerpiece follows the curve of your neck instead of laying out in a straight line. A scroll chain with a spring-ring clasp completes this elegant and easy-to-wear necklace that I always enjoyed. You can see it on my favorite model in this blog post. Black Bakelite Brooch with Diamantés

    , ,
This black Bakelite (or Galalith) brooch has a curved centerpiece topped with a collet-set diamanté. Each end features three rows of slightly-curved links with channel-set stones. The components are attached to a rhodium-plated metal back. This piece closes with a trombone clasp. The design and construction remind me of jewelry created by the German makers Schreiber & Hiller in the 1930s. Although the channel-set stones have aged a bit, this brooch is still a stunner! Black Diamanté Vintage Tank Track Brooch by Schreiber & Hiller

    , ,
This vintage tank track brooch is an unusual application of this classic Machine Age pattern. Schreiber & Hiller have made it even more distinctive by using black diamantés channel-set in slender, slightly curved links on the outside with a double-row of smaller, slightly lighter stones inside. The difference in colors is very subtle. At 3 ¼” long, this piece is a fabulous and versatile example of the era. This jewel closes with a trombone clasp.

  • Vintage rose brooch by Marcel Boucher
Black enamel & diamante rose brooch
    USD$375.00

Black Enamel & Diamanté ‘Rose of Seville’ Brooch & Earrings

    , , ,
In this vintage rose brooch, Boucher crafted a lovely three-dimensional flower in black-enameled lattice trimmed with round diamanté. The stem of the rose is adorned with baguettes. The rhodium-plated setting closes with a roll-over safety clasp. The matching ear clips, which are just as well-designed, are a bonus. This incredibly-detailed 1950s set deserves its elegant name: Rose of Seville. Wear the brooch with real or faux diamond stud earrings. Or, if you like the style of the decade, wear the pieces together. Either approach will make your outfit memorable. Dazzling jewels for those who like to wear cool colors.

    Black Suede Handbag with Chrome

This black suede handbag is probably a 1930s European design. Nearly square in shape with a fixed, top handle, this bag has chrome trim around the frame, a faille lining, and what appears to be the original mirror and change purse. Each of these accessories has a separate inside pocket. While the slender shape doesn’t lend itself to today’s daytime requirements, this beautiful bag is a lovely evening accessory.

Blue Bead 2-Strand Choker by Hattie Carnegie

    , ,
This blue bead choker necklace is made from the unusual, high-quality beads typically used by Hattie Carnegie. This fringe statement necklace has cobalt-blue glass tubes and chrome balls dangling from chrome links. The metal and fringe elements have a Machine Age-look and give this piece lots of movement! Some of the blue glass tubes have minor chips, but they are not noticeable when this beauty is worn. Blue Topaz, Ruby, Diamanté & Vermeil Flower Brooch

    , ,
This flower brooch designed by Adolph Katz is a stunning example of the Retro Modern style and the pieces created for Coro's high-end line in the 1940s. The vermeil center looks like folds of a fabric with pavé-trimmed white metal at each end. The same trim is wound around the center. From there emanate two boughs of faceted, oval blue-topaz-glass flowers with round ruby-glass accents. The blue stones have foil backs to intensify their color. The pin closes with a fold-over safety clasp. Gorgeous colors and amazing condition. This delicious jewel was advertised in the February 1, 1946 issue of Vogue.

  • Brown and gold topaz earrings by Elsa Schiaparelli
1950s ornate pendant earrings by Elsa Schiaparelli
    USD$185.00

Brown & Golden Topaz Pendant Earrings by Elsa Schiaparelli

    , ,
These brown and gold topaz earrings by Elsa Schiaparelli feature multiple stones in a gold-tone setting. At the top, a large, faceted, round golden-topaz-glass stone is positioned to adorn your earlobe. This stone is linked to a smaller, faceted, round brown-topaz-glass stone, which is connected to the setting of the pendant. This focal point – the pendant – is a large, faceted, open-back, brown-topaz-glass stone in an ornate setting. Its top is crowned with diamanté; the bottom rests on a scroll accented with another brown topaz. Please note that the dark striations in the large stones shown by my camera are not visible when the earrings are worn. Though not signed with the maker’s name, these ear clips are marked with the utility patent for one type of finding Schiaparelli used. The design of these pendants is undoubtedly hers – the matching signed bracelet has been sold. A perfect pair for those who wear warm colors.
