Vintage Art Deco Jewelry

About Vintage Art Deco Jewelry

This vintage Art Deco jewelry is characterized by clean lines, geometric forms, stylized Egyptian themes – e.g., scarabs, pharaohs, and hieroglyphics – fruit salads, abstract designs, and dramatic, contrasting colors. The pendant earrings, long and short necklaces, brooches, bracelets, dress clips, and double-clip brooches in this collection were made with faux pearls, crystal and richly-colored-glass stones and beads, shimmery stones (marcasites and diamanté), early plastics, and enamel. If you think you need to dress like a character from The Great Gatsby to wear this stunning jewelry, think again: its appeal has endured for nearly a century. And the quality of these 1920s-1930s European and North American makers is unsurpassed.

  • Statement choker necklace with red, black, green & diamanté disks
Front view of necklace w/faceted, colorful disks
    USD$295.00

Chrysoprase, Onyx, & Ruby Disk Choker with Rondelles

    , ,
This statement choker necklace features faceted, opaque chrysoprase-, onyx- and ruby-glass disks and rondelles. The components are strung on metal chain. The necklace closes with a barrel clasp formed by two of the disks. Based on the construction of this piece, I think it is European in origin. As often happens with necklaces made like this one, the chain has stretched. I don’t recommend having a jeweler cut the excess – just keep it at the back. This multi-colored, versatile necklace can be worn with many Art Deco jewels, depending on the color you wish to emphasize — scroll down to see a selection. Or wear your real or faux diamond studs to complete the look.

Citrine & Sterling Filigree Art Deco Bracelet by Simmons

This vintage Art Deco bracelet by Simmons, a company known for their innovation, has rectangular dark-citrine-glass stones set in the center of alternating panels of sterling silver filigree. The clasp on this piece is unique and secure. This bracelet is wider than most of its filigree counterparts, which makes me think it may be an early 1930s piece. • Vintage German brooch in gold-washed sterling w/citrine
    Close-up view of brooch center
    USD$185.00

Citrine & Vermeil Sterling German Brooch

    , ,
This vintage German brooch in gold-washed sterling silver is highly-decorated. Its focal point is a flower with a faceted, round citrine-glass stone at the center. The twisted metal decoration on the sides gives this piece a bit of a Machine Age-feel. The markings indicate that this brooch was handmade in Germany, using sterling with a higher silver content (935) than the 925 North American standard. Please note that gold plating on the center flower is in tact, even though the photos suggest wear. A petite and lovely jewel.

Citrine & Crystal 1920s Tiered Necklace

    , ,
The design and construction of this tiered necklace, a variation on the 1920s chicklet-style, is first class. Golden yellow, square-cut glass stones alternate with oblong crystals to form the necklace and tiered centerpiece. Round dangling citrine-glass stones add the movement that was so essential in the Art Deco era. All of the stones are faceted and mounted in decorated, silver-tone metal. The construction makes me think this piece was made in Europe. This divine jewel, which I initially purchased for myself, closes with a spring-ring clasp. This citrine and topaz necklace from the 1920s has faceted, square-cut glass stones set in silver-tone frames. The shape and construction of the piece is known today as a chicklet necklace. Citrine Pendant Earrings

These citrine pendant earrings from the mid-1920s are probably Czech in origin. What’s really unique is the metal inlays in each glass drop, which give the appearance of marcasites. • Diamante & citrine bangle bracelet in sterling
Leach & Miller citrine & diamante bracelet
    USD$345.00

Citrine, Diamanté & Sterling Bangle by Leach & Miller

    , ,
This citrine bangle bracelet features sets of five faceted, round deep-citrine (or golden-topaz) glass stones alternating with five faceted diamanté. The stones are channel-set in narrow, curved sterling silver with engraved edges. The ends meet with a pair of diamanté-set scrolls rather than a clasp. Longer than the typical bracelet of this era, this Leach & Miller creation may have been designed to be worn on the upper arm, as a so-called slave bracelet. You can wear it now either way – simply pull apart the ends to put it on. This unusual jewel is perfect for a woman who likes to wear warm colors. Crystal Bangle Bracelet by H. Payton

    , ,
This crystal bangle bracelet by H. Payton is a style that was all the rage in the 1920s. The company is best known by their PAYCO mark. Bracelets like this one were available in many colors of glass to imitate gemstones. With open-back faceted, square-cut stones to let light pass through, this piece goes with everything. It also looks great with other bangles and/or line bracelets of the era. Women typically wore multiple bracelets back then, and I confess that I’ve adopted that practice as part of my own personal style. This bracelet was made for a slim wrist, so please note the inside circumference (6 3/4″) and check your wrist size before purchasing this piece. A few of the stones have tiny chips, and there's a space between the stone next to the hinge and the metal (shown in the last photo). Diamante & sterling Art Deco bracelet
    USD$195.00

Diamanté & Sterling Line Bracelet by Otis

    , ,
This Otis sterling bracelet is a lovely example of an Art Deco line bracelet, the forerunner of today's tennis bracelet. It features faceted, square-cut diamanté channel-set in rhodium-plated sterling silver. Engraved edges and a diamanté-embellished fold-over clasp complete the design. The excellent articulation speaks to its high-quality construction, which actually was the same as that used by Wachenheimer Bros. (Read about the companies' connection.) Bracelets in this style (known as flexible bracelets in that era) were all the rage in the 1920s-1930s and were typically worn in multiples. You can see this one paired with other line bracelets in the photos. Although the stones have aged a bit, this jewel still has lots of sparkle. Scroll down to see coordinating pieces.
