Vintage Art Deco Jewelry

About Vintage Art Deco Jewelry

This vintage Art Deco jewelry is characterized by clean lines, geometric forms, stylized Egyptian themes – e.g., scarabs, pharaohs, and hieroglyphics – fruit salads, abstract designs, and dramatic, contrasting colors. The pendant earrings, long and short necklaces, brooches, bracelets, dress clips, and double-clip brooches in this collection were made with faux pearls, crystal and richly-colored-glass stones and beads, shimmery stones (marcasites and diamantés), early plastics, and enamel. If you think you need to dress like a character from The Great Gatsby to wear this stunning jewelry, think again: its appeal has endured for over a century. And the quality of these 1920s-1930s European and North American makers is unsurpassed.

    Jade Drop Earrings

    , ,
These jade drop earrings are made from molded glass that simulates carved stone. Lusciously-detailed with a silver-tone metal cap, each pendant has small jade-glass beads that lead to the stone at the earlobe. The setting is silver-tone metal. These all-original earrings have screw-backs, which can be modified for pierced ears. Jade was a very popular element in Art Deco jewelry. A soft color for today's woman who likes to wear warm hues.

  • Lapis drop earrings from Czechoslovakia
    1930s lapis bead earrings

    Lapis Bead Czech Drop Earrings

    , ,
These lapis drop earrings have a pair of glass beads, each capped with flower-petal-shaped metal. The lower bead is 1/2-inch in diameter. The size and color make these pendants a bit bolder in effect than Art Deco pieces from the 1920s. The original screw-backs were replaced with sterling silver posts for pierced ears by my expert jeweler. Scroll down to see a selection of Art Deco jewels to wear with these earrings. USD$295.00

    Lapis Panel 1930s Pendant Earrings

    , ,
These lapis blue earrings are formed from molded-glass panels that look like carved gemstones. The flower motif in the blue-glass pendants is present in the silver-tone metal components that connect the pendant to the earring top. These all-original, unusual earrings have screw-backs, but they can be modified for pierced ears. Because these Art Deco earrings are 2″ long and bold (the glass panels are 3/4-inch squares), I would wear these drops with only an Art Deco bracelet – scroll down to see a selection. This versatile color is perfect for those who like to wear cool hues.

  • Art Deco bar brooch with onyx & crystal

    USD$295.00

Onyx & Crystal Art Deco Bar Brooch

    , ,
This Art Deco bar brooch is formed from faceted, rectangular onyx-glass and crystal stones. Each end has a faceted, onyx-glass triangle. The silver-tone metal setting has cut-outs, creating a checkered pattern with the stones. They are all open-back, and the workmanship is superb. The trombone clasp and unusual design tell me this brooch is European in origin. I think the setting is sterling silver, but the mark is unreadable. • Art Deco bangle probably by Wachenheimer Bros.
    1920s bangle front
    USD$395.00

Peridot, Crystal & Sterling Art Deco Bangle

    , ,
This Art Deco bangle from the 1920s has faceted, square-cut stones channel-set in sterling silver with engraved edges. Open-back peridot glass alternates with colorless crystals, which sparkle when the light shines through. The materials, construction and quality are consistent with bangles made by Wachenheimer Bros. but unusual in color. I've called the green peridot because it's lighter than emerald. This jewel is unsigned because the tongue portion of the clasp (where this company's bangles were marked DIAMONBAR STERLING) was missing when I bought it. The clasp has been expertly repaired by my jeweler and now fastens securely. A lovely Art Deco bracelet from my personal collection to wear alone or as part of a stack of bracelets.

This red Bakelite brooch is crafted from a cylinder of red plastic (Bakelite or Galalith?) wrapped in chrome. This Machine Age design reminds me of the work of the German maker Jakob Bengel.
