Vintage Art Deco Jewelry

About Vintage Art Deco Jewelry

This vintage Art Deco jewelry is characterized by clean lines, geometric forms, stylized Egyptian themes – e.g., scarabs, pharaohs, and hieroglyphics – fruit salads, abstract designs, and dramatic, contrasting colors. The pendant earrings, long and short necklaces, brooches, bracelets, dress clips, and double-clip brooches in this collection were made with faux pearls, crystal and richly-colored-glass stones and beads, shimmery stones (marcasites and diamanté), early plastics, and enamel. If you think you need to dress like a character from The Great Gatsby to wear this stunning jewelry, think again: its appeal has endured for nearly a century. And the quality of these 1920s-1930s European and North American makers is unsurpassed.

  • 1920s pendant necklace with rectangular, ruby-glass stones
    Ruby Art Deco pendant
    USD$175.00

Ruby 1920s Pendant Necklace with Chicklets

    , ,
This delicate 1920s pendant necklace is another variation of the chicklet-style so popular in the Art Deco era. This piece has a beautifully-faceted, rectangular ruby-glass stone suspended from a smaller, oblong-shaped stone along with three chicklets on each side of the chain closest to the center drop. The metal is silver-tone and unmarked. This necklace closes with a spring-ring clasp. I don’t usually like pendants, but this one is special! It’s perfect for a v-neckline.

  • Pinwheel brooch of ruby-glass beads & diamantes

    USD$295.00

Ruby Bead & Rondelle Pinwheel Brooch

    , ,
This pinwheel brooch has ruby-glass beads wired in a spiral and adorned with channels of diamantés. A large ruby-glass bead sits on top. Frank Hess designed a nearly identical dress clip for Miriam Haskell circa 1940, but his had diamantés only on the front. This brooch has them on both sides. The trombone clasp tells me this piece was made in Europe. The beads and filigree back make me think it's from France. Real or faux diamond ear studs are the perfect accompaniment for this charming and unusual jewel.

    Deep-red melon-bead long necklace
    USD$595.00

Ruby Glass Bead Necklace with Rondelles

    , ,
This vintage red glass bead necklace with rondelles is probably from France. The uniformly-sized beads were molded in the shape of melons, a popular style in the 1920s-1930s. Wear this piece as a single long strand of 33 inches, or double it with a necklace shortener or ribbon tied at the back. Either way, you’ll love the deep-red color and the substantial quality of these beads. This necklace from my personal collection has been professionally restrung. Just add simple diamond studs to complete your look.

Sapphire Bead & Rondelle Pendant Earrings

These sapphire blue drop earrings are classy and long. Each has a blue rondelle (I had never seen a colored one before!) sandwiched between a pair of faceted, sapphire-glass beads. They are capped at each end with decorated silver-tone metal, and the pendants are suspended from silver-tone chain. A small diamanté is designed to adorn each earlobe. These all-original screw-back earrings can be modified for pierced ears. The backs of the screws are marked sterling, but I don’t know if the rest of the silver findings are as well. Sapphire Bi-color Bead Art Deco Pendant Earrings

    , ,
These Art Deco pendant earrings are wonderfully unusual. Each features a large, faceted, bi-color glass bead. Its top is clear, and the bottom is a deep-sapphire-blue. A small glass bead is at the center of the silver-tone links, and a silver-tone filigree knot is at the earlobe. These all-original, long (2 1/2″) earrings are dainty, yet full of life. The screw-backs can be modified for pierced ears. The screws are marked "sterling", but I don’t think the rest of the findings are.

  • Faux sapphire necklace with square & step-pattern stones
    Blue chicklet necklace
    USD$345.00

Sapphire Chicklet & Enamel 1920s Necklace

    , ,
This faux sapphire necklace has faceted, square-cut, blue-glass chicklets alternating with glass stones molded in a step pattern. The result is an Art Deco classic. The two blue-enamel links on each end make me think this piece is European in origin. This necklace closes with a spring-ring clasp. The original silver-tone finish is worn in places, so much of the brass is showing. Because the focus is the gorgeous blue stones, this slight blemish doesn't detract in any way from the beauty of this piece. This elegant necklace is versatile and timeless, and from my personal collection.

This melon bead necklace in deep-sapphire-blue raises a simple strand of beads to new heights! This German company is best known for its Art Nouveau and Art Deco silver-plated tableware. This silver-plated link bracelet from the Ikora line closes with a concealed clasp. The warm patina is the result of the oxidation process the jewelry department used in its manufacturing.
