  • 1940s Corocraft brooch with amethyst & diamantes
Another view of Coro Retro Modern brooch
    USD$445.00

Amethyst, Diamanté & Vermeil Bouquet Brooch

    , ,
This Corocraft brooch is just stunning! This Adolph Katz-designed piece has four pavé stems topped with faceted, oval amethyst-glass stones that are gathered through the center of a flower with diamanté-rimmed gold-plated sterling silver petals. The gold-plating on the flower is perfect – the difference in tone you see is from the camera’s reflection. What an outstanding example of the Retro Modern style! I have photographed the brooch in the vertical position as well as horizontally, as it appears in the patent drawing (shown in the second photo). This jewel, which closes with a roll-over safety clasp, is rich in contrasting colors and was in my personal collection. Wear it on the lapel of a blazer, and I guarantee you’ll be noticed!

    , ,
This beaded choker necklace is formed by clusters of delicate blue-glass-flower-shaped beads with white glass centers that alternate with clusters of diamantés. Three rondelles form the barrel clasp. This necklace, which has been authenticated as a Louis Rousselet creation, has been restrung by my expert jeweler. What a knockout! Crystal & Silver Necklace

    , ,
This crystal and silver necklace has stones that are faceted on top with pointed bottoms. Each is set in an etched silver-tone-metal frame. This stunning, well-made 1920s Art Deco classic is elegant and versatile to wear – it goes with everything! The original necklace was extremely short, so my expert jeweler added rings at each end to extend it and a new spring-ring clasp.

    USD$295.00

    Crystal Necklace & Earrings Set

    , , ,
This vintage rock crystal necklace and earrings set comes in its original box. (Rock crystal is a natural mineral.) Made in the 1950s, this set is reminiscent of similar pieces made in the Art Deco era. The necklace closes with a filigree fish-hook clasp. The original screw-backs on the earrings were converted to sterling silver ear wires with lever backs for pierced ears by my expert jeweler. The trademark ELCO was registered to the Milglo Jewelry Co. in New York City. Read more about rock crystal and see my favorite model wearing this lovely set in this blog post.

  • Vintage Lapel Watch by Pennino in Art Deco design
Art Deco design on front of clasp
    USD$595.00

Diamanté & Sterling 1930s Lapel Watch by Pennino Bros.

    , ,
This amazing lapel watch by Pennino is the ultimate in Art Deco design, with pavé and baguettes set in rhodium-plated sterling silver. The pin closes with a roll-over safety clasp. And the best part is that the watch works! It has been cleaned by my expert watchmaker. The watch is attached to the brooch upside down, so you can read the time when you are wearing this piece. The numbers on the watch face are also SO Deco in design, and the original blue hour, minute and second hands are present. What an unusual and fantastic piece! USD$495.00

Diamanté & Sterling Leaf Eisenberg Dress Clip

    , ,
This Eisenberg dress clip from the late-1940s is substantial in weight and size. It has two layers: square-cut diamanté flowers with a pavé stem that sit atop a sterling silver leaf embellished with additional diamanté. The cut-outs on the leaf add a graceful effect. The hinged, double-prong fastener works well with weighty fabrics. You could wear this jewel on the shoulder or lapel of a dress, jacket or coat, and own any room you enter! What a knockout!

    Diamanté & Gold Leaf Brooch

    , ,
This 1950s gold leaf brooch features ropes of yellow metal that form a trio of leaves adorned with diamantés. This graceful piece by Hattie Carnegie has lots of sparkle. It goes with nearly everything and closes with a roll-over safety clasp. Wear your own yellow gold hoop earrings, or a pair of diamond studs or hoops to complete the look. Or put on your gold bangle bracelet if you have one. A lovely and elegant jewel for those who love diamonds and like to wear warm colors.

  • Vintage starfish brooch by Alice Caviness
    Back of vintage starfish brooch
    USD$395.00

Diamanté & Gold Starfish Brooch by Alice Caviness

    , , ,
This vintage starfish brooch is bold and dazzling. The aurora borealis diamantés in the gold-tone setting take on the color of the metal, catch the light, and seem to dance. The brooch with a roll-over safety clasp reflects the hue of the garment it's pinned to. Although women in the 1950s typically wore matching sets of jewelry, you don't have to do that. Just add gold studs or hoops. Consider these ear clips, each shaped like one of the creature's arms, a bonus. This jewel is versatile and guaranteed to get you noticed! What an imaginative adornment for a bride's hair or veil!

Vintage dangle earrings in silver with diamante

Diamanté & Silver Vintage Dangle Earrings

    , ,
These vintage dangle earrings are diamanté-encrusted with faceted, square-cut stones at the earlobe and as the focal point on the drop. Long and luxurious, these all-original Art Deco pendants have gold-colored ear wires with shepherd hooks for pierced ears. I am unaware of their metal content. I think these beautiful earrings are European in origin because of their exceptional quality, their fasteners, and the "SILVER" stamp on the back. The use of "800 silver" (which is less than the 925 standard for sterling) was common in Europe when these jewels were made. Pieces like these are difficult to photograph, and the earrings are much brighter and more sparkly than the photos indicate. This glamorous pair walked the runway at a recent fashion show. • Flower dress clip in diamanté & sterling
Close-up view of blossoms & ribbons
    USD$445.00

Diamanté & Sterling Flower Dress Clip

    , ,
This flower dress clip has hand-set, large diamanté blossoms complimented with pavé ribbons. Substantial, yet graceful, this sterling silver pin is from the 1940s. Although it is unsigned, I have seen a signed version of the same design with colored stones. In addition, "N" (stamped on the back) is the mark of one of the company's stone-setters. This clip has a hinged, double-prong fastener, which works well with weighty fabrics. This bold and sparkly jewel would really stand out on the lapel or shoulder of a jacket or coat. What a glorious statement!

Diamanté 3-row Honeycomb Bracelet by Schreiber & Hiller

    , ,
This German Art Deco honeycomb bracelet has tapered links that are staggered to form the pattern, which is a variation of the tank track. Each rhodium-plated link has channel-set stones: a large diamanté in the center flanked by a smaller one on each side. This bracelet closes with a concealed clasp and safety catch. This jewel sparkled on the runway at a recent fashion show. The model wore it with diamanté 1950s Eisenberg earrings, shown below.

  • Wedding dress brooch by Frank Hess

    USD$445.00

Diamanté Floral Brooch by Miriam Haskell

    , ,
Whether you’re looking for a wedding dress brooch or something unique and elegant for every day, this sparkly jewel is for you. It is identical to the “central motif” of a necklace shown in the Gordon & Pamfiloff book on this maker. There the centerpiece is described as “silver metal leaves edged with rose montées and two large clear rhinestones surrounded by smaller rhinestones”. While the necklace is much more elaborate, this Frank Hess-designed 1950s piece is perfect for today, any time of day! I bought this brooch for myself, but I am now reluctantly offering it to a new home.

    Diamanté Floral Double Clip Brooch

    , ,
This geometric diamanté-encrusted Art Deco piece can be worn as a brooch or as two separate dress clips. The photos show a third option: one clip worn as a pendant on a black rubber cord; you may prefer to use a white gold or silver chain. A 17-inch, 2mm black rubber cord with a stainless steel twist lock (which is shown in the photo) is included with this purchase. The setting is rhodium-plated base metal; the brooch has a roll-over safety clasp. What's curious about this piece is its origin: although it is marked "PRO. PAT. 864999", I cannot identify the country. Scroll down to see several complementary bracelets.

Diamanté French Art Deco Dress Clips or Brooch

    , ,
These Art Deco dress clips from France are paved in diamanté set in rhodium-plated metal with cut-outs that enhance the design. The clips can be worn together as a brooch. Because the design is symmetrical, I like to wear this type of clip as a pendant on a chain or cord. The last two photos show this option: one with a sterling chain from my jewelry box (not included); the other with a 17-inch, 2mm black rubber cord (included with this purchase). • German flexible bracelet with diamante

    USD$375.00

    Diamanté German Flexible Bracelet

    , ,
This German flexible bracelet features curved, rhodium-plated links with channel-set diamanté. Its design and construction remind me of other pieces made in Germany in the 1930s and 1950. A distinctive element of this one is the use of a small disk between each link. This bracelet is wider and longer than most I’ve seen from these decades. Although this piece has a maker’s mark, I cannot identify the company. Scroll down to see a necklace by the same maker as well as an unsigned one with the same construction.

  • Diamanté silver bracelet with 3 rows
    Front of German diamante bracelet
    USD$295.00

    Diamanté Link German 1930s Bracelet

    , ,
This diamanté silver bracelet has two rows of long, slender, slightly-curved links of channel-set stones. Each link is trapezoid in shape. A single row of slimmer, short, pointed-top connecting links is in the middle. The setting is rhodium-plated white metal. This bracelet closes with a concealed clasp and safety chain. This piece is unsigned, but it reminds me of the work of the German company Schreiber & Hiller. I think this bracelet was made in the 1930s, but it could have been made around 1950, when German companies were re-emerging after the war. Scroll down to see some complementary pieces.

  • Trifari costume jewelry – double-clip brooch with diamanté ribbons
Diamanté ribbon Art Deco Clip-Mate by Trifari
    USD$395.00

Diamanté Ribbon 1930s Clip-Mates by Trifari

    , ,
Trifari costume jewelry of the late-1930s included Clip-Mates, their version of the double clip brooch. This example features loops of diamanté-encrusted ribbons. The setting is rhodium-plated. This piece can be worn as a brooch (at different angles, as shown) or as two separate dress clips. The photos show a third option: one clip worn as a pendant on a sterling silver chain (which is not included). A white-gold one would also work well. Diamanté Tank Track German Bracelet

    , ,
This German bracelet features four rows of slightly curved, tapered links channel-set with diamanté. The rhodium-plated setting closes with a concealed clasp and safety catch. Although this piece is unsigned, the tank-track pattern and the bracelet’s construction remind me of pieces made by German companies in the 1930s. This bracelet may have been made in the early 1950s, when the German companies were re-establishing themselves after the war. This bracelet was made for a slim wrist. • Vintage bib necklace with diamanté spray
    1950s German bib necklace
    USD$345.00

    Diamanté Vintage Bib Necklace

    , ,
This vintage bib necklace has a 3 ½”-wide centerpiece of tapered, curved links of channel-set diamanté and sprays of single stones. The setting is rhodium-plated white metal. An adjustable bar link chain with a spring-ring clasp completes the piece. This type of adjustable clasp – instead of the North American-style J-hook – was used by many German jewelry makers in the 1950s. The design and construction of this piece remind me of the work of Schreiber & Hiller, but this necklace is unmarked. Nonetheless, I think it was German-made. • Vintage link necklace with diamanté
    Diamante link Machine Age necklace
    USD$345.00

Diamanté Vintage Link Necklace by Schreiber & Hiller

    , ,
With this vintage link necklace from the 1930s, the maker used curved links of diamantés in a tank-track pattern as the centerpiece. The jeweled links have rhodium-plated backs. A link-and-bar chain with a spring-ring clasp complete this Machine Age piece. Because this necklace was in my personal collection, I had it shortened. Its purchase includes four additional links, which are each about one-half-inch long. Scroll down to see some tank track bracelets, also by Schreiber & Hiller, to wear with this wonderful necklace.
