Amethyst & Diamanté 1950s Silver Leaf Brooch by Miriam Haskell

    , ,

This unusual and elegant 1950s brooch by Miriam Haskell has pale amethyst glass nuggets set on a bed of layered, etched silver-tone leaves. Diamanté and beads of pale lavender and clear glass also adorn this luscious piece. I love the way the leaves curl around the large stones. This amazing brooch was in my personal collection, and I am now reluctantly offering it to you.

Amethyst & Filigree Drop Art Deco Earrings

    , ,

Faceted pale-amethyst-glass teardrops with silver-tone filigree caps are the focal point of these stunning and elegant 1920s Art Deco earrings. A faceted diamanté sits at the ear lobe, and tiny pale amethyst glass and crystal stones as well as marcasites dot the space in between. The only flaw in these long and hard-to-find earrings is that the tiny stones are different in each earring, but who cares? In my opinion, it’s the pale amethyst drop that counts! These screw-back earrings can be modified for pierced ears. You could wear these earrings with several amethyst Art Deco pieces shown below – scroll down to see them.

Curled sterling silver leaves are adorned with aquamarine rhinestones in this lively Pennino creation from the 1940s. The sterling appears warm, as if it might have once been gold-washed. The stones and leaves in these earrings resemble elements in the maker’s Sunburst brooches. These earrings are clip-backs and very versatile.

Gemstone & Sterling Acrostic 1940s Earrings by DeRosa

    , ,

Sterling silver set with gemstone-colored glass stones in a crescent shape make these 1940s clip-back earrings by DeRosa very versatile. The colored stones are graduated in size and enhanced with an inner ring of diamanté. Moreover, the faux diamond, emerald, amethyst, ruby, emerald, sapphire and topaz form the word dearest, making these earrings acrostic  (i.e., the initials of the stones form a word or name). This type of sentimental jewelry was very popular in the 19th century Victorian era, a style that inspired some 1940s jewelry designers. DeRosa pieces are always exceptionally well-made and hard to find.

Gold 1940s Double Flexible Spiral Cuff with Buckle by Forstner

    , ,

This 1940s variation on Forstner’s Retro Modern flexible spiral bracelets is a gold-filled, tapering double-row cuff with a decorative, fixed buckle. The polished finish of the center buckle adds a nice contrast to the coiled sides. Pieces by Forstner were very well made and have retained their quality. This one is especially nice because the construction allows the piece to fit small- to medium-size wrists. Please note that dark areas in the photos are reflections from the camera. Several Vogue ads for this company’s flexible spiral bracelets in other styles date these pieces from 1946-1948.
