Tortoise Shell Ball & Link 1960s Necklace by Miriam Haskell

Tortoise Shell Ball & Link 1960s Necklace by Miriam Haskell

Additional information

Miriam Haskell

Length: 25 1/2"; center section: 8" x 1 1/4" (largest bead); links: 3/4" x 1/2"

"MADE IN FRANCE" on links; "MIRIAM HASKELL" on oval cartouche on clasp back

This tortoise shell link necklace features large plastic beads, gold-colored end caps and oblong open links in a 1960s disco-inspired design. This necklace closes with a hidden, tongue-in-groove clasp with a tortoise-shell-colored bead and filigree on top. In some ways, this piece challenges my idea of Haskell elegance, but then again many whimsical designs bear her name. I have to admit that I bought this necklace, which was made more recently than my usual 1920-1960 scope, because I wanted to see the French-made links up close and in person. Any Mad Men fans out there?
